The Most Naked Red Carpet Looks Of All Time

The Most Naked Red Carpet Looks Of All Time

One could easily make the argument that 2014, thus far, is the year of the naked dress—and Rihanna, its queen. Her shocking and polarizing appearance in a completely sheer, Swarovski crystal-studded Adam Selman gown at the CFDA Awards got us thinking—who else has worn nearly-naked looks on the red carpet?

While Rihanna might be the reigning queen of the naked red carpet look, she’s far from their originator. The naked red carpet walk dates well back into the 1990s, when Rose McGowan showed up to the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards on the arm of Marilyn Manson—and wearing a sheer backless dress with nothing but a black thong underneath.

Rapper Lil’ Kim was next to dominate the naked red carpet look, arriving at the 1999 VMAs in a glittering purple jumpsuit—with one breast completely exposed. Jennifer Lopez then stunned the world in a plunging, bright green Versace dress at the 2001 Grammy Awards—and with a swish of her silk chiffon tail, the naked red carpet look was officially here to stay.
