If you’re anything like us, you understand the struggle once October arrives. We try and plan ahead, only to find ourselves without a costume a week before Halloween. Sound familiar? It does to blogger Grasie Mercedes of Style Me Grasie. “I’m the ultimate procrastinator,” she says. “I usually wait until the day before to think about my costume, and by then, the stores are packed and all the good ideas are taken.”
In an effort to put an end to the madnesss, we’ve teamed up with Mercedes to come up with two last-minute costume ideas that involve pieces you likely already have in your closet. “Given that a lot of my style icons are celebrities, I thought I’d take inspiration from a few of my favorites to come up with a costume,” explains Mercedes. Armed with pieces from the Who What Wear collection, accessories from her closet, and her favorite TRESemmé products, Mercedes took cues from pop culture and styled two costumes that are easy to pull off but totally memorable.

Just because it's Halloween doesn't mean your personal style goes out the window. For Mercedes, she counts Solange as one of her fashion icons. “I feel like she represents my playful side. She loves color and has great natural curls, so I had to play that up.” To similarly pay homage to the It fashion girls of the year, find a fun print and pick a bright color that'll turn heads this Halloween.
“I took inspiration from this street-style look and gave it my own spin. The sweater and skirt are from the Who What Wear collection, and I added in some gold accessories.” But let’s be honest: This look is all about the hair. “I used TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Mousse to add some major volume to my curls, and voilà!” Top the look off with a swipe of hot-pink lipstick and you’re good to go.

When it comes to distinct personal style, the Olsen twins top the list with their commitment to oversized menswear-inspired pieces. “The Olsen sisters are the queens of chic, but there’s one outfit Ashley wore that I’m completely in love with,” explains Mercedes. “Whenever I'm feeling more minimalist, I turn to her style. She always wears classic pieces and knows how to make neutrals feel exciting."
Mercedes’s entire outfit (minus the heels) is from the Who What Wear collection, but the one item that’s “so perfectly Olsen” is the coat. “To get my equally sleek pulled-back hair, I used TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Gel and smoothed out flyaways with TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Hairspray,” explains Mercedes. And if you can, get a bestie to be Mary-Kate with you!
