2 Cool-Girl Outfit Formulas That Only LOOK Expensive

In July, actress Sarah Hyland was named the new face (and first-ever celebrity creative director) for the legendary brand Candie’s. That move was just one part of the brand’s new approach: While the brand has retained a bit of its retro ’80s appeal we all know and love (seriously, who didn’t own a pair of its wooden heels back in the day?), it has pivoted its signature feminine, flirty aesthetic to a look that’s more elevated and chic.

For longtime Candie’s fans like blogger Emily Luciano, the change has been a major hit. “I remember my first Candie’s purchase as a teenager—a cute crossbody purse,” says the Lovely Luciano blogger. And while that purse is long gone, these days she’s loving the brand for its über-sophisticated yet affordable pieces that can work any day, anytime. Case in point: Today Luciano is showing us how to transition some of summer’s biggest staples (think off-the-shoulder styles and over-the-knee boots) into fall and winter using Candie’s pieces.

The Ultimate Brunch Look

“Brunch is all about taking the morning to relax, get ready, and put on something that makes you feel comfortable but still super cute,” Luciano says. For her, that means an off-the-shoulder sweater, black pants, open-ankle booties, and a pop of color with a pink crossbody bag.

A Sophisticated Happy Hour

“At happy hour, you want to feel dressy but also casual,” Luciano advises. She achieves that with a skirt, over-the-knee boots, a cozy sweater, and a blazer draped over her shoulders.
