SKIRT TRENDS 2024: WHAT SKIRTS ARE IN STYLE FOR SUMMER 2024

It's true: summer is well and truly on its way in. And as the warmer season makes its presence known, we can very clearly start to see the styles lauded on the catwalk back at Fashion Month permeate the ready-to-wear market. In the past few years, skirts have been shining bright (in colourways too) and unlike very specific styles of the past (I'm looking at you micro mini), many skirt styles are being championed for the coming months—from risqué peek-a-boo iterations to free-flowing maxis.

I've re-observed the skirt trends we first witnessed on runways in London, Milan, New York and Paris and four particular styles feel the most prominent and compelling. That is, transparent skirts with a '90s lilt, bright white, skirts incorporating tassel elements and of course, leather—a failproof winter hero. It's jumper season and if you're feeling uninspired why not enlist one of these bold styles to elevate your knitwear? Keep reading to discover four skirt trends for 2024 that you'll be seeing land on your favourite e-commerce sites shortly (if not already). There's something for everyone—from the minimalist to the party-goer.

1. Transparent Skirts

Style Notes: We saw the revival of see-through styles back in 2022 from the likes of Schiaparelli, Khaite and Rejina Pyo and this style has continued to prove its longevity. It's the fashion hero that celebrates the form. What a better and more empowering way to step into 2024. Here, Abi demonstrates a way you can style the trend for the evening.

Style Notes: Cotton poplin skirts are the ultimate blend of comfort and polish. For a casual yet chic look, pair a high-waisted white poplin skirt with a tucked-in graphic tee and white sneakers. Or for a more office-ready ensemble, try a black skirt with a crisp blouse and block heels.

Style Notes: You may say that the leather skirt has been resurrected, but the truth is, it never left. Instead, leather skirting coasts on the sidelines waiting for its prime time, come winter. It's the seasonal and trend-led piece that comes back each autumn-winter season, making it the perfect investment piece.

Style Notes: Pleated skirts continue to be a wardrobe essential, balancing timeless elegance with modern versatility. Try experimenting with a patterned pleated skirts, keeping the rest of the look minimal to let the skirt stand out. Or perhaps a classic look is what you're after, in which case combine with a linen waistcoat and some kitten mules.
