I am not a morning person. Every weekday when my alarm goes off, I immediately hit snooze before slowly peeling myself out of bed. So it makes complete sense that picking out what to wear to work at 7 a.m. tended to not to work out so well for me. Usually I would sleepily grab the nearest dress out of my closet or pull a pair of jeans off the top of the pile, and then run out the door since I was inevitably running late. But this was the old uninformed me.
After I started a new job that I love (this one!), I was inspired to breathe new life into my routine, too. With one simple swap, I suddenly felt more confident and polished heading into the office every day, all thanks to the eight-hour rule. Read on to learn how I revolutionized my style.
What is the eight-hour rule? It's simple: No longer would I allow myself to scramble at the last minute to find what to wear. Instead, I set a distinct time limit: Outfits are now chosen eight hours before I wake up. Every evening, I set aside 10 minutes to pick out my look of choice for the following day. I wake up the next day feeling more relaxed without the pressure of figuring out what to wear, and when I arrive at the office, I feel more put together. Win-win.
