7 Classic Summer Outfits Fashion People Are Wearing Right Now

Summer is finally here! The most longed-for season of the year, especially for UK dwellers, has arrived, and after tolerating months of drizzle, cold winds, and the bulky clothing winter (and yes, even spring) weather necessitates, we couldn't be happier about this amazing bout of sunshine and high temperatures we're experiencing right now.

With warmer weather comes a shift in our approach to dressing. Wool and fleece get shoved to the back of the wardrobe to make room for seersucker, linen and poplin, and scarves are swapped for sunnies and silk neckerchiefs. We've seen a few gorgeous, hot days in the UK lately so now feels appropriate to start relying on some easy yet polished summer looks that will work now, into July and beyond. From simple jeans-and-a-nice-top combos to statement suiting, each of these inspiring outfits deserves a spot in your repertoire. Check them out below.

1. White Blouse + Blue Jeans + Clogs

Style Notes: A flowy white blouse and blue jeans is a pairing as old as time, but adding clogs into the mix makes it feel very 2023.

2. Crop Top + Linen Trousers + Mules

Style Notes: It's the season of the crop top. I love the juxtaposition between a skin-bearing top and relaxed linen trousers.

3. Bright Suit + White Tee

Style Notes: Summer is best spent in mood-boosting hues like tangerine, Barbie pink and cerulean blue. Go all-out with a matching suit, dressed down with a tee underneath.

4. Co-Ord + Ballet Flats

Style Notes: When I want to look polished with minimal effort, a co-ord is my go-to. Team a skirt-and-top set with ballet flats and you've got yourself an effortlessly chic look.

5. Denim Jacket + Ecru Jeans + Slides

Style Notes: Nothing says summer like a denim jacket—I'll be wearing mine with white or ecru jeans and slides.

6. Floral Dress + Trainers + Shoulder Bag

Style Notes: Choose a cheerful palette of bright colours to rock into the summer months.

7. Relaxed Shirt + Longline Skirt + Block Heels

Style Notes: This outfit demonstrates how comfort and style can go hand-in-hand. A relaxed button-down will give your slinky skirts a casual spin.

Freelance Fashion Editor

Bébhinn Campbell is an Edinburgh-based fashion and lifestyle writer. After receiving an Audrey Hepburn box set for her 10th birthday and subsequently swooning over the actor’s wardrobe, Bébhinn felt pretty confident she wanted a career that involved clothes. She started her first blog at age 14—the title was a pun, but we’ll leave it at that—and went on to intern at print and digital publications in Berlin and London, including Dazed & Confused and Indie magazine

A job at a fashion startup took Bébhinn from Ireland to Scotland in 2019, where she now works as a freelance journalist and copywriter covering everything from travel and interiors to styling advice. As a contributor for Who What Wear, Bébhinn always keeps her eyes peeled for emerging trends and looks worth writing about. She prides herself on her ability to cut through the noise and identify solid investment buys, exciting new brands and updated takes on classic designs.

While she still loves Audrey Hepburn films, these days, Bébhinn’s sartorial taste sits closer to Annie Hall’s and Alexa Chung’s. In her spare time, she’s likely cooing over cute dogs on rescue websites, playing folk songs on her guitar and browsing bookshops for new additions to her already-overpacked shelves.
