The Anti-Trend Summer Staple Fashion People Are Wearing With Simple Trousers, Skirts and More

Investing in clothing that won't age is a bit of a task come summer (a symptom of all the chic trends circulating this time of year). Fear not—this outerwear style will fill that gap.

There's one thing I keep seeing this season—including in my reflection—and it's chic linen blazers. Outerwear migration is telling of weather shifts, and the layer of choice this season is a classic Saville Row silhouette rendered in this breezy fabric.

Indeed, there's been an influx of sophisticated linen blazers—both high-street and high-end—funnelling onto the new-in pages of some of our favourite online retailers. So while the forecast teeters between scorching temperatures and short-lived torrential downpours, I'm here to explain why linen blazers are an elite addition to any summer wardrobe.

Many factors make linen blazers an apt outerwear choice for the next few months. They’re feather-light, low maintenance and malleable (for sleeve-ruching on warmer days). It's these characteristics that make linen trousers such a staple, but this year I've seen stylish dressers swapping these airy drawstring silhouettes for a most polished coat.

You see, it’s the one time of year when creasing evokes a carefree charm, which is just as well, as ironing is a distant cry from the reality of pulling outfits on balmy mornings. The characteristic of linen also embodies the coastal aesthetic we all want to replicate when we can't get to the seaside.

If you’re stationed in a corporate highrise and bound by a formal dress code, linen blazers are a godsend for elevating classic office outfits, as you can adhere to a conventional uniform with simple updates and swap-outs. The use of considered and breathable fibres will keep you cool during the day, and you can extend the wear of a linen blazer post-work hours. Just pair with a structured skirt and a cool work shoe like penny loafers or heeled flip-flops et voilà!

Linen suiting best shines in warm weather, in or outside of the office. Easy switches like shorts instead of trousers prolong androgynous styles throughout the season. There’s something for the girly dressers among us, too, as linen blazers can supplement streamlined mini and maxi styles of clothing. The light colour ways of spring and summer 2025 are infiltrating tailoring and pastel shades are appearing on sites from Mango to M&S, so there’s no shortage of pigment either.

I’m fond of natural fabrics, so I appreciate the linen-rich compositions. But if you’re looking for something with more structure and/or lining, I’ve been thrilled to see linen and lyocell melds. It’s a more sustainable fabric option, and moisture-wicking—a win-win! Keep reading for some of the best linen blazers to see you through this spring and the upcoming summer too.

How to Style a Linen Blazer

As linen is a fairly neutral fabric with a relaxed shape, styling your linen blazers is fairly straightforward. If unsure where to start, I'd recommend beginning by identifying a few common outfits you wear on rotation. These are what you'd consider to be the template for a "uniform". Even without knowing what pieces make up this quasi-capsule wardrobe, I'd wager that a linen blazer would pair perfectly with any of these styles.

If you find yourself regularly wearing jeans and a simple white t-shirt, throwing on a linen blazer in a darker colour way can help polish up these garments a little, adding an air of thoughtfulness we see in collections from The Row and Celine. (This look from Michael Rider's debut collection for the French maison is the perfect example of this.)

Linen blazers can be considered a fashion palette cleanser. They're not overpowering or statement-making, meaning they complement a range of outfits from athletic leggings to cargo pants and even capri pants. I personally love pairing a linen blazer with a floral dress or slipping it over a crisp button-down.

What Shoes Should You Wear With a Linen Blazer?

Footwear is the finishing touch that ties together your entire look. As for the shoes you should wear with a linen blazer, you can go in one of two directions. The first would be to embrace the tailored flair in a pair of boat shoes, loafers or Parisian-esque ballet flats. The second would be to reject the codes of the garment and wear something playful or experimental like the jelly fisherman sandal trend.

Can I Wear a Linen Blazer to a Wedding?

Whether you can wear a linen blazer to a wedding will depend on the dress code stipulated on the invite. If the function will be black tie or cocktail, I'd recommend steering away from this purely because it's less formal than other structured blazers. Linen blazers best suit daytime receptions or garden parties best, so save it for that special occasion.
