Perhaps it’s her Devon roots, but despite the global fame, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s pretty down to earth. She looks like a goddess, but when it comes to beauty, the model is a girl-next-door type. “I’ve never been the one who’s really into beauty—like, hardcore trends. I’m not really one for trends in general,” she tells me while we’re sat on a sofa at Soho Farmhouse. We’re there to welcome Huntington-Whiteley as a global ambassador for BareMinerals, the clean beauty brand famous for its loose mineral powder foundation.
“I remember being really skeptical about trying the Loose Powder Foundation (£27). It’s the OG in the line, and I was like, It’s not going to work, it’s a powder, it’s never going to give me coverage, it’s going to make me look dry and it’s not going to last, but it blows me away every time I use it. I get to try different products, and I have different products tried on me at work, yet every time I use it, I’m like ‘wow.’ It lasts and gives me great coverage all day, leaving me looking luminous, glowy and fresh; that’s a product I’m really passionate about,” says Huntington-Whiteley.
The model, who’s engaged to actor Jason Statham and has a little boy called Jack, has flown in from L.A. for the event, and she looks radiant. Since flying can zap the life out of the hardiest of complexions—and since our entire fashion team is obsessed with her airport style—I have to ask what her secret is.
“Right now, it depends whether I’m travelling with my son or not,” she tells me. “Because if I’m travelling with my son, I do absolutely nothing. I go on with no makeup, and keep my fingers crossed that he’s going to sleep and be quiet. If I’m not with him, flying is now this whole luxury process where I get all my products out and have this indulgent moment in my seat. Usually I’ll spray something beautiful and smelly; I’ll put some essential oil like lavender on my hands and temples to start feeling really cosy.”
“If I can, I’ll arrive at the airport with no makeup on; otherwise I’ll remove with a wipe,” she continues. “Koh Gen Do has beautiful wipes. I don’t generally love taking my makeup off with wipes because I think they’re a little bit abrasive, but when you’re on a plane, you basically have the choice of the water in the tank of the airplane or the wipes. So I use the wipes followed by a misting spray, and then it’ll be all about hydration, hydration, hydration. I use BareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Sleeping Gel Cream on flights because it locks in so much moisture, and you can sleep in it and wake up with dewy-looking skin. You can actually use that all over your body, right down your neck and onto your chest; that’s a really great product to travel with.”
“I’ve always been really obsessed with Shiseido eye cream, but right now I’m using BareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Gel Eye Cream, which is just so beautiful,” she shares. “I’ve only just started to wear eye cream, but it gives you a dewy look around your eyes. Those would be the key skincare products on the plane. For touchdown, a big pair of sunglasses hides a multitude of sins, as well as dry shampoo and a little bit of coverage where you need it; that’s where the Loose Powder Foundation comes in.”
