Let’s face it: We spend so much time putting our everyday outfits together and reading up and shopping the latest fashion trends that lingerie rarely gets a look in. When you’re pushed for time in a morning and already late to the office, those final five minutes before you rush out the door are normally (and naturally) dedicated to what shoes or earrings to pair your outfit with. Underwear is an afterthought.
But that shouldn’t be the case. Just like with every other garment or accessory we wear, there are trends worth paying attention to. After all, as satisfying as it is to know that you’re killing it in the accessories department, isn’t it even more satisfying to secretly know that your underwear is just as on point?
We rounded up the best of the lingerie trends of 2018 for your (and your underwear drawer’s) pleasure.
1. Lace Bralet
Delicate lace bralettes have steadily become something of a lingerie essential. Not only are they incredibly comfy, but the non-padded style is perfect for wearing under white shirts when you're looking to expose just a tiny amount of underwear.
2. High-Waist Brief
Good news - big comfy briefs that cover your tummy and guarantee to keep you nice and warm are now trending. Whether they're lace, cotton, printed, plain or super-stretchy – we are totally on board with this one. If you need any further proof, Ganni has even got in on the action, offering up a super-stylish leopard print pair.
While this one doesn’t promise tons of support on the bust, it is ideal for wearing under sheer fabrics and tees when you're wearing lightweight fabrics and you want to avoid a bulky waist or exposing any skin. Plus, with fashion's unwavering obsession with underwear as outerwear, you can even wear some iterations solo with jeans and heels.
4. Colourblock Lace
If the bralet just is't your thing, or you're simply looking for a little extra support, why not try the colourblock bra? This trend isn't solely limited to lace, but we think the pretty fabric and the bold colour clash is the chicest combination.
5. High-Rise Brief
Like the rest of our wardrobes, 90s shapes and finishes are currently trending and the high-leg brief is one of the coolest styles to invest in right now. Bold and printed, delicate lace or plain jersey - there's so much choice and the clever cut makes your legs feel infinitely longer.
