I Turned 30 and Replaced All My Lingerie With This Specific Style—Here's Why
Stop wearing uncomfortable lace.
As I've gotten older, I've grown less patient and accommodating when it comes to wearable items that aren't comfortable. I once wore bras that were too tight and pinched in all the worst places and thongs made of itchy, unnatural fabrics made to look like delicate lace that always needed to be adjusted. It wasn't fun, but when you don't have a big budget, filling a drawer with genuinely enjoyable lingerie isn't easy. Now that I'm in my 30s, I no longer skimp on undergarments, and part of that means ditching lace almost entirely and replacing everything with silk lingerie. As a result, my relationship with lingerie has completely changed, becoming enjoyable as opposed to unpleasant and even painful at times. Silk feels organic on the skin and, by nature, soft. It's a perfect layer of protection that not only feels good but also looks good.
I know I'm not alone in this. Slowly but surely, I've started to spot silk lingerie on all my fashion friends and people I follow online. Brands like Araks and Fleur du Mal are go-tos, and there are even more luxurious alternatives, like Carine Gilson and Kiki de Montparnasse. Fashion houses have gotten on board, too, with silk bras debuting at the fall/winter 2025 shows of Miu Miu and Valentino. A-listers Gracie Abrams and Olivia Rodrigo have both recently been seen donning silk bras and sets from Araks—as have creators such as Laura Jung, Courtney Trop, and Molly Blutstein. The draw is really in how lavish this style of bras and panties is. It makes every day (and night) feel special, which, in turn, can shift your attitude entirely. Those little changes make a big difference over time, so trust me. Cutting anything out that we used to grin and bear in favor of wearing pieces that provide comfort and confidence is worth the extra investment.
Before you buy another bra or G-string that will only result in constant adjustments, indents in your skin, and irritation, start scrolling. The silk lingerie ahead will solve all your undergarment-related problems. At least, it solved mine.
