How to Make Your Next Vacation Your Most Stylish Yet
We're only a few days into January, and chances are you're just trying to make it through winter right now—but if you've found yourself day-dreaming or perhaps even planning (lucky gal!) a mid-January tropical getaway, then you're likely thinking about what you'd want to wear. I was lucky enough to take such a trip in December, to ClubMed's amazing resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic—and I can attest personally that what you wear makes a big difference.
On this particular trip, I had a lot of activities planned for me to celebrate the opening of ClubMed's ultra-fab new Zen Oasis space: cocktail hours, dinners, boating excursions, yoga, and dance parties were all on the itinerary. As I went to pack my suitcase, I was kind of at a loss; with daytime temperatures as high as 85 degrees, and nighttime temps falling into the 60s, I felt like I didn't really have enough clothes to suit each activity I was obligated to attend. (Read: fashion girl problems.)
I ended up making it all work, but I want to do my best to help you avoid finding yourself in a similar pickle. I thought a list of stylish pieces to wear for each of the standard vacation events would be helpful—and there's no better collection to turn to than Resort 2016, with a fabulous array of offerings from every designer label: Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra, Tibi, and more!

On my trip, dinner was definitely one of the biggest highlights of each day, with an insanely diverse array of cuisine options and bottomless vino to accompany (yes, bottomless). A couple of the dinners were served beachside, so I wanted to be stylish but also appropriately casual. The best solution: a midi-length dress or skirt, or trousers paired with flat sandals. The idea here is to keep your look elevated without looking like you're trying too hard—you're on vacation, after all. Plan to take it easy, then follow through.

Cocktail hours at ClubMed in Punta Cana are a truly festive affair, with live music, vendors, and small bites galore. For these events, I wanted to first and foremost be comfortable; I think feeling confident—and having room in your clothes to dance—is of the utmost importance at these kinds of events. Enter the maxi dress! A short set or shirtdress make for solid choices, too.

If you're going on vacation to somewhere tropical and fabulous, ideally you will be doing a lot of lounging. Whether in your cabana, on the beach, by the pool, or at the spa (the massage I got at ClubMed's L'Occitane Spa seriously blew my mind), you'll hopefully be sitting around doing a whole lot of nothing while you're on holiday. But just because you're doing nothing doesn't mean you have to forfeit your sense of style; reach for an ultra-flowy maxi dress, matching PJ-inspired set, or sailboat-ready blouse and trousers to lounge around in style.

Last but certainly not least: Lying poolside is a big part of any respectable tropical vacay. Whether you're more of a one-piece or bikini gal, the one thing you absolutely will need is a beautiful cover-up. We love the modern print on this one from Preen, but you can also go more traditional with a mesh net fabrication or a pretty lace sarong.
