I'm the Fashion Friend, But I Survived 72 Hours Outdoors With These 30 Items
In every single one of my friend groups, I'm the fashion friend—the one you text when you have a date in 20 minutes and you don't know what to wear or when you need someone to FaceTime in the fitting room for a second opinion. I've spent years sending my friends links to outfits, trends, and red carpet looks, but nothing prepared them for a selfie from my first-ever camping trip. When I spend time outdoors, I'm usually walking in the city to my favorite shops or sitting under palm trees at the beach. But when Timberland and Hike Clerb team up for a weekend upstate to celebrate the iconic brand's 50th anniversary, it's impossible to say no.
Hike Clerb is an intersectional women's outdoors collective whose mission is to aid in the healing of Black, Indigenous women of color by giving them the tools, education, resources, and experiences they need to immerse themselves in nature. It goes without saying that this is a cause I fully support, so I traded my kitten heels for hiking boots and headed to the Catskill Mountains despite everyone's shock and doubt that I could survive in the wilderness. For 72 hours, I bonded with everyone over campfires, farm-to-table dinners, and tie-dye sessions while testing the new Timberland GreenStride Motion 6 Hiker and other outdoor pieces from the brand's Venture Out collection. I couldn't go camping for the first time without letting you guys in on the 30 core pieces that kept me stylish. Keep scrolling for the details.
Finally, a waterproof jacket that's lightweight enough for summer showers but keeps you warm and dry, too. It has an outer shell and inner liner that each can be worn separately or together for ultimate layering.
These quick-drying paper-bag shorts are bringing me back to 2018 in the best way possible. Tuck in an oversize tee and throw on the shoes below for a stylish hiking look.
Maturing is swapping your running sneakers for hiking shoes. I hiked miles and miles through the mud and water in these without a single blister or pinch.
I will always find an excuse to pack a plain white T-shirt, but this one has a bit of flair. Peep the elongated short sleeves and the draped crossover detail.
The category is gold-hoop supremacy. Wear these with any outfit for any occasion and instantly feel more confident.
Very few cropped rain jackets exist, so I'd consider this a major must-have.
Unpopular opinion: Baggy jeans belong in your overnight bag. This loose '90s style made me feel slightly more put-together, and I didn't have to sacrifice comfort.
I'm a tote-bag girl to my core, but this backpack was so practical and had more than enough compartments for a day spent hiking a nature trail.
After sporting these for two days in a row, I can safely say that they're an outdoorsy fashion essential.
Several girls on the trip wore this fleece, and I can't close my laptop without adding it to my cart.
I'm pretty picky when it comes to biker shorts because they're often too thin, fall down when you walk, or cut your thighs in an awkward place. As much as I'm drawn to this pretty shade of pink, I'm even more drawn to the length and fit.
Allow me to introduce you to the most comfortable denim shorts I own. You can wear them to just about any function—trust me.
The highly coveted Boston Clog hasn't left the trend cycle (or Pinterest boards) just yet. Act fast.
My fellow editors can't get enough of this tank, so naturally, I bought it in two colors. Yes, it lives up to the hype.
Wrap this puffer scrunchie around your slicked-back bun for the ultimate sporty hairstyle.
Hear me out: Jumpsuits are the new workout sets. Regardless of my my itinerary, this is a staple in my travel wardrobe.
Yes, I've worn these shoes every day since I got them. They're grass, sand, and concrete approved.
Whether I'm sleeping in a tent or a hotel, I feel the most luxurious when I wake up in a pajama set.
I'm a certified over-packer, and this duffle carried every item I needed as a first-time camper.
This crossbody bag looks way more expensive than it is, and it held my sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, and portable charger.
These are New Balance's most popular sneakers for a reason. I packed these to add an instant cool factor to my looks.
