The Winter Trends Europeans Are Wearing on Vacation
To those of us who live stateside, Paris and Oslo are dream vacation destinations. But Europeans living in the most aspirational locales still have to head out of town sometimes, too. Whether they’re hitting the slopes in the Alps or escaping to the beaches of Mauritius, our Euro counterparts are setting their out-of-offices and jetting off in style. Packed in their suitcases and duffels are some of winter's biggest trends, ready to be unfolded and hung in a hotel closet in an entirely new locale.
If you have your own ski week or tropical getaway on the horizon, you can pull your inspiration from those across the pond. Packing is easy when you pick an entire aesthetic to embrace (cottagecore-inspired ski uniform, anyone?), but it can also be as simple as a single statement piece to freshen things up.
Whether it's incorporating a pop of red into your capsule wardrobe of neutrals or embracing the ease of sporty staples, with a few thoughtful tweaks, you can ensure that you arrive at your destination as the best dressed version of yourself. While it's entirely possible you'll leave packing until the last minute (I'm usually up late scrambling the night before my flight), starting to cherry-pick new winter styles to add to your own vacation will make those last minutes of filling your suitcase a breeze.
Shop vacation styles inspired by the women in France, the UK, Norway, and more.
Pop of Red
When you're short on room in your suitcase, an easy way to add oomph to your look is by contrasting neutral hues with a bold pop of red. Accessories and outerwear are both easy ways to embrace a little cherry in your life.
Cabincore
When weather is snowy, swap out your usually sporty gear for grandma-inspired prints and playful knits. Think of the look as a cross between cottagecore and aprés-ski.
Sporty Touches
For a trip somewhere warm, avoid packing anything overly fussy, and instead stick to casual staples with a sporty lean. Just remember you're on vacation, so even if you look like you're ready to hit the pitch, you can spend all day in a beach chair.
Dare to Sheer
On a trip where you'll be doing some celebrating, embrace the trend of wearing a little something sheer. A see-through skirt paired with bold tights or short shorts and a long coat can still feel like you're comfortably covered.
If you've obsessed over Miu Miu's sheer skirts, here's an affordable alternative.
Big Bag
Big bags have been all over the runways, but they have a practical purpose on vacation. In tandem with a suitcase, an oversize bag will hold all the necessities in style.
Mob Wife Aesthetic
There's been talk on TikTok around fashion inspired by the likes of Carmela Soprano. You can channel the look yourself with a statement coat and sleek accessories.
Let your coat shine, and style it with simple fitted staples.
Statement Coat
When in doubt, always travel with a statement coat. It's the single piece that can make your casual staples like jeans and sneakers transform into a 'fit. To save space, make sure to wear your coat in transit.
