Pernille Teisbaek Is Our Street Style Star of the Year!

What makes a person stand out in a sea of stylish editors, bloggers, and tastemakers? Styling. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, after all! It’s making a $50 H&M dress look like a luxurious Céline find. It’s slightly tucking a shirt for an effortless finish. It’s putting a modern twist on basics with unexpected layering. When we think of who best encapsulates this idea season after season, Pernille Teisbaek of Look de Pernille immediately comes to mind. A slew of thoughtfully curated ensembles and an endlessly chic approach to high-low dressing make the Denmark native a shoo-in for our inaugural Street Style Star of the Year Award.

Ahead, Pernille reveals what was most important to building her brand, where she finds inspiration, and more.

Who What Wear: What do you think has been an integral part of building your brand as a blogger/influencer?

Pernille Teisbaek: One of the essential things of building my universe has been that I continue to stay true to myself, and when I style [looks], I listen to my gut feeling, remembering to always be me!

WWW: What do you love most about your job?

PT: I love that I’m able to be creative every day, and spontaneous. I am constantly developing and challenging myself with new projects. If you’d asked me a year ago, I’d have never thought that I would be hosting a TV show [Trendsætterne] right now.

WWW: What is the most difficult part of your job?

PT: The most difficult must be the expectations of constantly delivering interesting and inspiring content, whether it is on the blog, in my styling, or in my outfits during fashion month.

WWW: You love to wear H&M. What are some of your favorite items from the retailer right now?

PT: My favorite item that I wear all the time is a ribbed knit with a zipper detail at front, which works perfectly for the layered look I often do. But in general, what I like about H&M is that their quality is not dictated by the price, so you get a lot for less.

WWW: You’re a pro when it comes to mixing high and low fashion. What are your secrets?

PT: I think it is all about creating a balance of pairing a few iconic pieces together with basic items. It is much more interesting when you are able to style a look that is affordable yet still inspiring. For me, that is what styling is all about.

WWW: What is the key to getting noticed by a street style photographer?

PT: I think the key is that you feel confident and relaxed in what you are wearing, so the clothes become a part of you and not the other way around.

WWW: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

PT: When I have the time to relax, I browse through magazines and Tumblr. It is difficult to be creative on the run, so for me, it is all about having time to let the creativity flow, whether it is home on the couch or on a plane to New York.

WWW: Do you have any great fashion hacks you can share?

PT: When I’m on the run and don’t have an iron in my overpacked suitcase and my silk shirt needs a 911 wrinkle rescue, I always turn on the hot water in the bathroom and wait until the room is filled with steam. I’ll hang my shirt in the shower, and in a few seconds it is wrinkle-free!

WWW: How do you go about preparing your looks for a big event like fashion month?

PT: I always love to be well-prepared, so I always try out the things that I want to wear so I don’t bring too many extras.

WWW: Do you have a favorite look from this past fashion month? If so, why do you love it so much?

PT: One of my favorite looks was actually one of the last outfits that I was wearing in Paris: a silk top from Céline, jeans, and an orange Loewe clutch.

WWW: What was your last big purchase or fashion discovery?

PT: I spotted this amazing silver bomber jacket from Gucci during fashion month that I would love to get in my wardrobe. A big plus is that silver will be the next big thing for spring, so it will be a great investment!
