I Just Tried a £100 LED Mask From Boots—Here's Why I'm Recommending It to Everyone I Know

Boots has created a more affordable LED mask, and one beauty editor shares her honest review.

It's no secret that some of the best LED masks can set you back a small fortune. While they are every bit worth the investment, if you're yet to try one out, I totally understand the hesitation of dropping £300+ on the skin tool. So, when I heard that Boots had launched its own LED mask for £100, I was immediately intrigued.

Of course, £100 is still a significant amount to spend on a facial device, but when it comes to LED masks, this is easily one of the more affordable ones on the market. Additionally, considering the cost of a salon LED facial, this at-home mask is a much cheaper alternative.

The question is, is it as good as its more expensive counterparts? Here at Who What Wear UK, we like to put the buzziest tools to the test (we've tried everything from the ZIIP device to the NuFace), and this Boots LED mask has certainly been generating a lot of hype. So, I did what any good beauty journalist would do, and called in a sample straight away. I've been trialling it for a few weeks now, and have shared my honest thoughts below.

What Does the Boots LED Face Mask Do?

We all know that most LED masks utilise red light to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, while also reducing inflammation in the skin. However, what's great about this Boots mask (and incredibly impressive, considering the price) is that it comes with four different LED treatment modes to tackle a wide range of skincare concerns.

Of course, it features a red mode to promote smoother-looking skin, but it also has a yellow mode for brightening, a green mode for balancing and a purple mode for minimising the appearance of pores.

Boots LED Face Mask Features

Treatment settings: As mentioned, this mask comes with four different treatment settings: red, yellow, green and purple.

The mask: While many LED masks are made of flexible silicone, this mask features a more rigid design. It comes with a handy head strap, and the best part is that you simply have to press a button at the top of the mask to turn it on, allowing you to move around whilst wearing it instead of having to hold a remote. Inside the box you'll find the mask, a USB cable for charging, the mask strap and the instruction manual.

Usage instructions: The brand recommends using this mask for 15 minutes a day, four times a week, making it easy to incorporate into your skincare routine. You'll want to use it after cleansing and drying the skin, before applying your serum or moisturiser. Hold the ON/OFF button for three seconds to turn the device on, and press the same button to switch between the different LED treatments.

My Verdict

So, what did I think of this mask? Honestly, I am so impressed. However, before discussing why I love it so much, let me briefly address the downsides. One thing I will say is that due to the rigid design, it's not as comfortable as other masks I have tried. That being said, the fact that it's hands-free is a huge plus. The only other thing that bothered me slightly was the fact that the treatment time is 15 minutes. This is a little longer than other masks I have tried, but in the grand scheme of things, I'll do it for glowing skin.

Now, onto the pros. First of all, £100 for this kind of skincare device is quite remarkable, especially when it comes with four different treatment modes. I have tried many expensive devices on offer that only feature one or two modes, so I couldn't believe it when I got my hands on this and saw all the different light modes it offers. It's so great if you want a mask to tackle a wider range of skincare concerns.

The other thing I loved? Just how easy this is to use. I will say, the button on the device is not always the most responsive (sometimes I have to press it a few times to get it to work), but the fact that this is all you have to push to turn it on and switch between the different modes makes it so simple for someone new to the world of LED masks.

My skin first thing in the morning, before skincare, after using the Boots LED mask.

I've been using it for a few weeks now, and I've already noticed some subtle differences in my skin. My complexion looks brighter and more even, and some scarring I had from a previous breakout is looking less noticeable by the week. I definitely need to use it longer to see some real changes, but so far, this gets top marks from me.
