Confirmed in Paris: The #1 Manicure for Fall 2026 Has Nothing to Do With Nail Polish

At a private atelier one block shy of the Place Vendôme, you'll encounter the most ornate-looking press-on nails to ever exist. Courtesy of Mellerio—the 400-year-old jewelry house that once adorned Marie Antoinette—each set features an open mesh framework encrusted with white diamonds, black diamonds, or colorful gemstones. Depending on the design, you could walk out having spent upwards of $2000 per nail ($2070 for the pinky finger, $2645 for the index and middle, $3220 for the thumb). Precious press-ons indeed.

Lavish, yes, but nail jewelry is nothing new. In fact, Mellerio patented the ornaments back in 1951. Though they never made it into commercial production until their official debut during Paris Haute Couture Week. Decades later, DJ turned jewelry designer Jules Kim started creating her own nail rings after becoming "fascinated" by Mellerio's historic nail motifs on a trip to Paris. By 2008, her signature silhouette was born—a serpentine nail-shaped ring that coils around the fingertip—and worn by Beyoncé in her "Sweet Dreams" music video shortly after. London-based jewelry designer Jessie Evans has offered reusable 18-karat gold, diamond, and sapphire nail charms for years, and celebrity manicurists, like Betina Goldstein and Tom Bachik, have relied on precious stones for custom red carpet nail looks. Think Margot Robbie's diamond-and-ruby-scattered manicure at the Wuthering Heights L.A. premiere, Rosé's soft blush nails accented by a dangling Tiffany Victoria pearl earring, and Jennifer Lopez's diamond-embellished set at the 2023 Grammys. The concept has been simmering for ages, but as the fine-jewelry and nail spaces edge even closer, it's gaining more and more mass appeal.

"I believe we are witnessing a broader evolution in luxury," Laure-Isabelle Mellerio, creative director of the maison, says of the shift. "Jewelry is becoming more expressive." Colorful gemstones and convertible lariat necklaces, for example, dominated the 2026 Couture Jewelry Show, demonstrating a hunger for pieces that reflect individuality. And what better way to showcase your personal style than with some unique nail art? "Consumers no longer separate these worlds as clearly as they once did," Mellerio adds. "They see them as complementary forms of self-expression."

The jewelry world at large has been exploring new territory for a while now with a wave of unique, utilitarian pieces that focus on craftsmanship. Ponytail cuffs, brooches, belts, bag charms—interesting, heirloom-esque creations are all over the map. "Jewelry has expanded beyond traditional placements," Kim agrees. "Nails are a natural extension of that." Even if someone already has a sprawling collection of fine jewelry, Mellerio muses, perhaps they're looking for unexpected ways to show it off. Enter a little finger bling.

The nail space itself has also seen quite a bit of innovation, especially when it comes to press-ons. Faux nails of years past were often clunky, limited in design, and, frankly, rather unreliable. God forbid you lose a diamond-adorned nail while opening a car door or washing your hands. Now, the category has practically exploded with chic, reusable options that truly rival a salon manicure—both in terms of design and durability. Mellerio's nail ornaments, for example, rely on adhesive tabs commonly used for regular press-ons. Yep, your run-of-the-mill stickers are high-quality enough for those precious sets. "This allows them to be securely attached while remaining easy to remove without damaging the natural nail," Mellerio explains. "They can be worn comfortably for an evening, a special event, or even for several days." Of course, as they feature precious stones, you'll want to be extra vigilant with the removal. Warm water mixed with dish soap typically does the trick, though Evans's reusable charms can also withstand acetone.

Now, you can totally hop on the trend without shelling out thousands of dollars for diamonds. Bedazzled nails continue to dominate the beauty scene via Swarovski crystals, metallic studs, or even nostalgic adhesive rhinestones (hello, Kylie Jenner!). You can craft a manicure that looks just as elevated, similar to how you might replicate trending jewelry designs with costume pieces as opposed to a couture investment. But these luxury nail adornments are quickly becoming less of a trend and more of a category mainstay, changing what it means to splurge on your manicure.

"I plan to continue educating how to use [and] wear these pieces and getting everyone comfortable with the idea," says Evans, who is currently cooking up new designs and materials to play with. "Watch this space." Fast-forward another 75 years, and fine-jewelry nail adornments might be as timeless as the tennis bracelet. After all, Kim puts it, "it’s simply another place on the body for jewelry to live."
