Angelina Jolie Wore the Shoe Trend I'd Never Choose for the Airport in the Summer
Due to the nature of their work, most movie stars have the whole jet-set thing down to a science. From comfortable matching sets to chic carry-ons, incognito accessories, and slip-on shoes, there's an art to perfecting airport style. Chances are, if you spot a celeb in your boarding area, heads will turn. However, Angelina Jolie caught our attention recently at JFK for a different reason entirely: was she really wearing suede knee-high boots at the airport in the middle of a scorching-hot summer?
Perhaps, if you're flying private, easy on-off footwear isn't such a big deal. But, if you're like me and spent your last flight in a middle seat in the second-to-last row of the plane, then you'll probably agree that sneakers or slip-on shoes are a much more realistic choice. Especially when the security lines seem to be extra long lately.
So, while we love Jolie's look—including her gorgeous Manolo Blahnik boots—we'll be sticking to more functional footwear (and comfortable travel pants) for our next flight. The trench and oversized tote, however, are two elements of the outfit worth replicating.
Ahead, check out a selection of elevated classic trench coats and versatile straw bags that are ideal for any upcoming summer air travel. Pair them with Jolie's signature oversized shades and you'll look like you belong in first class, even if your seats say coach. Hey, it's always possible you'll get upgraded, right?
Bon voyage!

Straw bags are ideal for taking on the plane then straight to the beach.
Warm gold buttons and a tie belt make this coat look less casual than its counterparts.
Lean into the resurgence of boho style with a woven Chloe basket tote.
Pro-tip: look for bags with extra long handles—they'll fit around your carry-on so you can breeze through the airport.
Little details, like tortiose shell buttons, can take the most simple designs to the next level.
