As soon as I saw Devon Lee Carlson post about her new collaboration with Frankies Bikinis, I knew I had to shop it fast before it sold out at today’s highly anticipated launch on August 4.
Carlson, a long-time friend of Frankies Bikinis founder Francesca Aiello, has been frequently seen in the L.A. brand’s swimwear for many years, so it makes perfect sense they'd finally work together. The collection, Sunshine Girls, captures the joyful, sun-shiny aesthetic Carlson is known for. Inspired by their personal closets and a shared love for archival fashion, the capsule has vintage-inspired silhouettes referencing the 1950s, 1970s, and early 2000s, including Frankies' first-ever pair of low-rise jeans. Throughout the designs, there's a mix of florals, stripes, chiffons, silks, and sequins. Even as a minimalist dresser, I'm eyeing a leopard slip that's making me consider wearing animal print.
"We wanted to make clothes to have in our dream closet—the clothes that you would see in movies and wish you could wear when you grow up," said Carlson in a press release. "It's all here. We dove into our own closets and took inspiration from our favorite vintage pieces. We want everyone to have fun and get dressed up with your girls and enjoy life. I hope everyone mixes and matches the bikinis, wears the dresses all night into the morning, and lives in these jeans every day. Designing this with my best friend has been so rewarding and we put a lot of love into each piece. Hope everyone feels hot, happy, and fun in this."
Aiello also shared, "Collaborating with Devon was truly so special. As long-time friends, we have a connection that's hard to match. We really wanted to create a collection that felt like us—sunshine and dogs included. Both of us dove into our closets, finding our most treasured archival pieces to use as inspiration. Bright colors, playful patterns, and vintage silhouettes were the through-line leading us to design a collection filled with whimsy, happiness, and high fashion inspiration."
