Predictions for 2016 are as ubiquitous as long shopping lines at the mall this time of year, but when Elle.com released its top five predictions for the year from highly regarded trendspotter and futurist Jess Kimball Leslie, naturally we had to click in. The very first prophecy (and only style-related forecast) was something we found quite encouraging: We’ll continue trading fast fashion for ethical fashion.
According to Leslie, “Clothing companies like Everlane and Reformation are readying to seriously challenge the current ‘basic items’ mainstays. Their secret sauce? Ethically produced fashion that you can feel good about wearing and buying, as these companies are intent on not exploiting the environment or their workers.” We’d like to add Brother Vellies, Christy Dawn, and Faircloth & Supply to that list of brands with an ethical ethos. We’re so happy to see and be able to cover the work of designers changing the fashion manufacturing landscape for the better, and we want to be part of making that prediction come true.
If you do, too, scroll down to shop our top three picks from some of our favorite ethical brands.
Do you think the rise in ethical fashion prediction will prove to be true? Let us know in the comments below, then head over to Elle.com to check out the other four predictions.
