Celebs and Fashion People Agree—This Is the Chicest Way to Wear Your Bob in Summer
From Emma Stone to Penélope Cruz, the balayage bob is proving to be a big hit this season.
I feel like the bob is having a bit of a resurgence. You might be thinking, isn't the bob hairstyle one of the biggest hair trends of 2026? Whilst this is true, spring saw mid-length and long hairstyles make a return, but for summer, it's all about the balayage bob. Combining one of the most popular hair colour techniques with this season's short hairstyle of choice, the balayage bob is a timeless look that still feels bang on trend.
I first spotted this trend on some of my favourite celebs, including Emma Stone and Penélope Cruz. However, a quick look at Instagram told me that the most stylish people were already one step ahead, with lots of fashionable creators sporting a balayage bob, too.
I always thought balayage would be best suited to longer hairstyles, as the colour is often applied in sweeping strokes, but it actually works incredibly well on shorter strands. It still adds that natural, soft finish whilst brightening the hair overall, perfect for the warm weather we're having. Don't believe me? Check out some of my favourite balayage bob hairstyles below.

I love the dimensional blonde tones in Penélope Cruz's hair for the Cannes Film Festival.
How incredible does this trend look on curly hair?
Alexa Chung's lob hairstyle lends itself perfectly to the French colouring technique.
So cool!
Balayage will add a naturally sun-kissed effect to your bob hairstyle.
The Best Products for a Balayage Bob
A balayage bob looks incredible with lots of volume, and I can confirm that this hot brush delivers.
For a shiny finish, add a few drops of this lightweight hair oil from Gisou.
If you've opted for blonde balayage, keep your colour looking fresh in between appointments with a purple shampoo.
As mentioned above, this trend looks incredible with curly hair, and this curl cream from Aveda works to enhance your natural texture.
In my opinion, balayage looks best with movement throughout the hair, and this texture mist adds that tousled, cool-girl finish.
