While we're constantly looking to our friends overseas for fashion inspiration, let's not forget about the incredible style right outside our front doors. We've teamed up with Frye and three uniquely fashionable women from different cities around the U.S. to share their fresh take on all-American style. Our first girl gave us her L.A. perspective, then we headed down south to Nashville—next stop, NYC.
Is there any place on earth better for people-watching than New York City? We think not—the city's unparalleled blend of cultures and attitudes makes for some truly memorable street style moments (read: serious outfit inspo). Just ask NYC-based blogger Tessa Barton of By Tezza: "There's the artsier, more daring crew in Brooklyn, the buttoned-up Uptowners, and everything in between," she says of the city's diverse population. Barton's own style is a mix of city chic and bohemian, with a focus on great accessories—especially her ready-for-anything Frye moto boots and city-essential leather backpack.
Below, see how Barton is styling her favorite fall pieces through a New York lens.
Barton, who hails from Utah, tells us her style has evolved to be just as creative and adventurous as the busy city she now calls home. "It's all about making your own rules and owning it every step of the way," the musician and stylist tells us.
While Barton's an avid fan of on-trend prints and statement accessories, she likes them best when juxtaposed with timeless investment pieces. She loves that the quality of her Frye boots and leather backpack means they'll last through the rough and tumble of NYC weather, grit of the streets and grime of the subways. Plus who can hate the simple cool of the metal harness details.
As for what we can expect to find inside this cool New Yorker's backpack? "A camera, an extra top for a quick outfit change, a laptop, and a makeup bag," she tells us. That pretty much sums up a city girl's essentials as far as we're concerned.
