The Cult £24-Serum That Has Completely Transformed My Skin
There came a pivotal point during lockdown when I began a huge life purge (I’m certainly not the only one). My wardrobe and the dreaded cupboard under-the-stairs were subject to a crazed woman on a cleansing mission. I needed to own less and I wanted the things I own to serve me (it was very Marie Kondo vibes). Then there was my skincare collection; a mish-mash of cult products that seemed to take up space rather than actually make a discernible difference to my face. I had to ask myself: what is it I actually want my skincare products to do? The answer was simple, I wanted to glow. Blame Instagram, but I wanted to be reminiscent of those dewy, close to translucent women on every brand’s mood board. So I turned to cult favourite Glossier’s Vitamin C ‘Super Glow’ serum. After all, that’s Glossier’s thing: ‘barely there’ makeup and prioritising skin health first.
Vitamin C is one of those ‘holy grail ingredients’ everyone believes they should be using but are perhaps unclear why. Essentially it’s an antioxidant, known for its melanin-blocking properties which help to even skin tone and fade marks from blemishes. Glossier’s Super Glow contains 5% vitamin C so it’s a gentle treatment compared to other more intensive serums on the market but still pretty effective. It also contains magnesium which helps to nourish and replenish moisture—and, my skin was thirsty.
While I’ve been generally lucky with my skin since my mid-late twenties, I still suffer from some hyperpigmentation. Blame it on teen acne and years of not knowing that brown skin tones also needed to wear SPF daily. On the skin, Glossier’s Super Glow is lightweight and non-oily. I’ve been using it in my overall day and night routines for about eight weeks. The difference has been considerable. My skin is noticeably "glowier” and some fresh blemishes have faded without leaving a dark mark. Call it a placebo, but I definitely think my make-up looks heaps better. Dewy foundations, like Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filtr Hydration foundation, actually fulfil its role and my skin looks dare I say it… radiant.
It worth noting that I’ve been religious with my skincare routine. I’ve taken no chances and I’ve also invested in a great, rich moisturiser, a super nourishing oil, and a factor 50 SPF. It’s wise to pair v itamin C with a great daily SPF, I use La Roche Posay’s SPF 50 to ensure my skin doesn’t revert back after all this work. So yes, I’m feeling fresh, bright, and radiant.
