8 Any-Weather Skirt Outfits Fashion People Always Wear Before Committing to Jeans and Knits
There are few pieces that are true wardrobe staples, but it is safe to say that the midi skirt is definitely one of them. No matter the season, its versatility and simplicity ensure it remains on the rail year-round.
Come rain or shine, you’ll find me in a midi skirt of some kind, but for people who are less obsessed with the style, autumn in particular is an excellent time to don them—they look excellent styled with boots and jumpers on colder days, but can easily be worn with t-shirts and trainers when it's warmer. Plus, the current selections from high-street retailers and designers are vast and there are many impressive and considered shapes that have a timeless appeal, so there’s a style for everyone.
Over the last few years hemlines have dominated the runway and this season designers swapped barely there mini lengths for their longer (and more voluminous) counterparts. "On the knee" is a popular fashion category and styles from tailored skirting to pleats and airy cotton voiles are infiltrating our feeds.
When it comes to midi skirts, styling opportunities are endless. Simple, understated versions can be adapted to suit any occassion—they look effortlessly cool when paired with trainers and a t-shirt or cardigan for daytime wear, but can easily be dressed up with heels and a blazer or silky top for the evening. And with so many styles to choose from, you're sure to find one that will integrate perfectly into your current wardrobe.
And let's not forget the classics. Column slip skirts reappear every autumn and the classic denim midi skirt is also a popular style right now. If you’re a fan of midi skirts keep on reading for some of my favourite investment pieces and outfit inspirations for how to wear a midi skirt this season.
8 MIDI-SKIRT OUTFITS TO TRY THIS AUTUMN:
1. Off-Shoulder Knit + Voluminous Skirt + Ballet Flats
Style Notes: Neutral lovers - this is one for you. This black-and-white outfit is a masterclass in how to style the very on-trend voluminous skirt. I particularly love how the off-the-shoulder knit and ballet pumps give this look a timelessly elegant look.

Not only will these keep your feet warm, they also look extremely chic with sandals.
4. Pencil Skirt + Cardigan + Mules
Style Notes: The good thing about a pencil skirt is that it does all the work for you. Add a simple cardigan and mules and you're all set. That being said, the addition of two-tone mules really elevates the fashion-forward nature of the outfit.

5. A Denim Jacket + White Midi Skirt + Boots
Style Notes: The juxtaposition of textures in this look is magic, from the starchy denim jacket to the supple skirt and ruched boots. It's a look that can transcend from the office to post-work events and date nights.

Long sleeve tops are undoubtedly a layering must-have. The round neckline of this style is best suited for the above outfit as it'll make the lapels on the jacket stand out.
There's nothing more unpredictable than UK weather, but these brown knee-high boots will make so many warm weather styles cool temperature-appropriate.
6. Tailored Black Skirt + Pinstripe Shirt + Flat Boots
Style Notes: A tailored black skirt is such a great polished option, especially when paired with a crisp shirt. Dress this look down by opting for flat boots, which also makes it more autumn-ready.
