Katie Holmes Is Just One of the Many Fashion Insiders Obsessing Over This Coat
Earlier this year, Katie Holmes added a new winter addition to her wardrobe, and we're just as in love with it as she appears to be. The item in question is the under-£500 Gaia coat (£419) from The Frankie Shop. It's a classic double-breasted camel style that the actress has been seen reaching for when in need to brave the cold New York City weather. One of our favourite looks was when Holmes wore her the coat with a white beanie, loose jumper, wide-leg track pants and Adidas trainers—a WWW uniform if you ask us.
It's no surprise she loves it. The elegant coat style is a classic cold-weather buy that comes back into favour every winter. With a distinctly Parisian flair, extra-long and boxy coats have long been favoured by the French fashion set—who love both a neutral shade and a sharp shoulder pad—often styling theirs with jeans and wool trousers throughout winter.
Our managing editor, Poppy Nash also swears by The Frankie Shop's Gaia coat, owning it in classic black. She describes it as her ultimate go-to for looking polished while staying comfortable. "I'd normally wear a dress size 12 or 14, so I would consider a large in a coat, but I opted for medium and it's just roomy enough, letting me wear jumpers and even blazers underneath without bunching up or pulling" she says. With its oversized yet structured silhouette, it's no wonder she—and so many others—consider this coat a wardrobe essential.
Whilst there are many fantastic iterations on the market, Holmes' structured style from The Frankie Shop is on our radar as one of the best out there. Its floor-grazing length, oversized shoulder pads and double-breasted cut can be maximised to conceal the outfit underneath, making it ideal for chucking over casual loungewear during these cold December days if you're simply not in the mood to get properly dressed.
A mainstay in her weekend rotation, Holmes favours the coat for errand running, often pairing it with casual trousers or jogging bottoms and her trusty black Adidas trainers. Beyond its outfit-concealing credentials, the oversized coat features several smart details that help to add some polish to a casual outfit. Additionally, the generous shoulder pads work to balance the wearer's frame, creating a cohesive silhouette that can be dressed up or down.
Available in timeless camel as well as white, black, brown, plum, navy and grey, this perfect coat has been selling quickly since it landed. Read on to shop it or discover our edit of more of the best camel coats to buy this season.
