3 Colors and Prints Royals Always Wear in June
Not to brag, but we've developed something of an eye for spotting royal micro-trends. This year, so far, we've identified the midi dresses that every princess, duchess, and queen own; pointed out the strappy sandals that Meghan Markle and Princess Charlene of Monaco are backing; and spotted spring's tonal dressing trend early on (back when the Duchess of Sussex donned an all-white ensemble in February, to be exact).
Now that we're poised to refresh our wardrobes for summer, we went in search of a very specific micro-trend: the colors and prints that royals always wear in June. In other words, we dug through hundreds of images in Getty's archives so that you don't have to. Keep scrolling to see which hues everyone from Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle to Queen Letizia of Spain and Princess Sofia of Sweden wear on repeat come June 1.
Blue
Blue tends to rise in popularity every summer, but last year, royals like Kate Middleton and Princess Charlene of Monaco went a step farther and donned blue-and-white stripes that exuded nautical vibes (in a good way).
Kate Middleton donned a summery blue-and-white-striped Zara dress (which instantly sold out, of course) to a charity polo match in June 2017.
Princess Charlene wore a blue-and-white-striped button-down shirt with white jeans to the Formula One Grand Prix of France in Le Castellet last year.
White
Whites for summer are a given, but royals like Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle, and Queen Letizia have demonstrated how to make the timeless warm-weather color look and feel fresh for the season time and again.
Here, Kate Middleton layered a white blazer over a pair of navy trousers for a maritime-inspired look that doesn't fall into the tried-and-true trope of the season.
Meghan Markle made a compelling case for adding a classic white shirtdress to our summer wardrobe while attending last year's Royal Ascot.
Queen Letizia stepped out in a sleek and sophisticated white jumpsuit that made us want to reevaluate our summer workwear staples.
Florals
Although not a color per se, floral prints are a staple in nearly every royal's summer wardrobe. Everyone from Queen Letizia of Spain to Princess Sofia of Sweden was spotted sporting blossoms last June.
Queen Letizia paired a pleated floral midi skirt with strappy pointed-toe pumps for a polished and professional ensemble.
Princess Sofia put on a boldly printed midi dress to attend the christening of Princess Adrienne of Sweden last June.
Lady Kitty Spencer made a striking statement in an embellished floral maxi dress at the annual Serpentine Summer Party in 2018.
Emma Thynn, aka Viscountess Weymouth (or Emma Weymouth, as she's more commonly known) donned a ruffled floral frock at the same event.
