Ahead of Zimmermann’s A/W 17 presentation at New York Fashion Week we caught up with creative director Nicky Zimmermann over email to find out the inspiration behind the collection.
Describing the A/W 17, titled “The Maples” (which is the name of one of the buildings that was used to house students of the Women’s College at Sydney University following WWI) creative director Nicky Zimmermann explained “I was drawn in by the sense of optimism and freedom of women at the time. Young women playing sport wearing traditional men’s attire—cricket whites and team blazers, slouchy sweaters, oversized coats. And then there was the photos of the nights—smoky danced-in rooms, a peeping sun at dawn, draped oriental silk pyjama robes and demure bias drop wait dresses. The inspiration is about the mood these images evoked, the attitude and their youthful spirit.”
While we can't wait to wear the entire collection, there's one overall trend we spotted that shows no signs of slowing down—ruffles. Keep scrolling to see the trend in motion, andshop the current Zimmermann collection.
