We Need to Talk About This $50 Cashmere Sweater ASAP
Despite the office day ending at 5 p.m., my work always seems to follow me home. Over dinner with friends or catching up with a café au lait, my conversations, without fail, are fashion-focused—so much so that my dearest friends will ring me for my opinion before making a purchase. I can't complain. It's the consequence of being a shopping editor, I suppose. Their most recent inquiry was a budget-friendly cashmere knit. Their curiosity led me on a hunt for the best affordable cashmere sweaters, and that's exactly what's coming to you below.

This year, fashion people are pairing their best cashmere sweaters with denim styles that feel 2026. Think white denim, trendy barrel-leg jeans, edgy bootcut jeans, and skinny jeans–adjacent cigarette pants. Before you snap a 'fit pic, it's time to introduce the sweater.

The Quince Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck, $50
Okay, let's talk about it. With over 27,700 reviews and a 4.9-star rating, this 100% Grade A Mongolian cashmere crewneck is a must-have for cashmere lovers. The material feels rich, and the elegant ribbed cuffs and hem make this crewneck look rich too.
This season's viral cashmere sweaters range from pieces in J.Crew's premium cashmere shop to Reformation's perfectly relaxed Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater ($198), but to ensure Quince's $50 crewneck sweater is popular for all the right reasons, I decided to test it myself.

I wanted to complement the soft texture of the cashmere, so I wore the crewneck with the Reformation Gale Satin Mid Rise Bias Pant ($198) for a relaxed look. I threw on my Madewell Mylie Ballet Flat ($128) in a tonal Dark Carob suede; a Ralph Lauren checkered coat, which I've owned for years, makes an appearance; and I finished the look with a white cashmere scarf draped casually off my shoulders.

My review: When I placed my order, I didn't know what to expect. I had done my research and read the reviews, but I knew it would come down to the unboxing and whether this $50 cashmere would pass the touch test. Safe to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The cashmere is tightly knit and incredibly soft to the touch. I often find 100% natural fibers like cashmere and wool to be itchy, but here, I felt relief. I do expect some minor pilling where there is friction, such as the shoulders when wearing a coat, where the elbow meets the waist, and so on. But Quince sells a Cashmere Comb ($10) designed to solve such problems.
I commute to work in Manhattan, and these East Coast winters can be cruel and frigid. I found the Quince Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck to be warm and resilient against the cold and rather lightweight, which I appreciate since winter fashion tends to lean bulky. I was happy with my color choice. The brown pairs well with the neutral pieces in my wardrobe. I can easily see it becoming a part of my capsule wardrobe with a pair of straight-leg Madewell jeans or even a slip skirt come springtime.
Size range: XS to XL (Available in 1X to 3X, $60)
Material: 100% Grade A Mongolian cashmere
Colors: 15
Sizing tip: I love a try-on, but since Quince is online exclusive, I trusted a size small to fit. Happily, it was true to size. The sleeves end just above my wrists and fit snugly under the shoulder, neither too tight nor too loose. The sweater falls at my hips, tapering in slightly and giving it a polished look. A little bit about the neckline: The crew silhouette is unrestricted and sits comfortably atop my collarbone. For future purchases, I'd be interested in trying a size medium for an oversize look.

Is butter yellow still a thing? I'd argue it is. This crewneck is perfect for spring.
