Don't expect to see any swimsuits in the next Miss America show. Gretchen Carlson, the 1998 winner of the competition and its new chair of the board of trustees, appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the changes we'll see in the next competition, which is slated for September 9.
"We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance," Carlson said on GMA. "That's huge. And that means we will no longer have a swimsuit competition." Carlson went on to explain what the judges will be looking for instead. "It's going to be what comes out of their mouth that we're interested in when they talk about their social impact initiatives. We want to be open, transparent, and inclusive to women who may not have been comfortable participating in our competition before." Only time will tell how the changes will pan out. Head over to GMA to watch the full clip.
