It's no secret that '90s fashion is very on trend for 2017, whether in the form of slides or retro sunglasses. But after seeing Janelle Monáe walk the Marie Claire red carpet this weekend, we are adding another pre-aughts favorite to the growing list of must-haves.
Monáe walked the magazine's red carpet in celebration of her May cover, wearing little white bird fasteners in her hair that looked a lot like '90s butterfly clips. She matched her accessories to a mesh Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh shirt and patterned dress, fishnet tights, and pointed Schutz boots.
Butterfly clips were a popular hair staple in the decade—ask any millennial, or simply google Lizzie McGuire—but perhaps Monáe's birds will mark the beginning of a new (and improved) revival. If they're worn like the artist styled them, we can only hope so.
