One of her favorite ways to squeeze the most moisture out of a serum formula is by doing what she calls the“hydration sandwich.” "Apply a lightweight moisturizer first, then your serum foundation, and finish with a hydrating setting spray," she advises. "It helps everything melt together and gives the skin a fresh, youthful finish."
How do you apply serum foundations?
Zhang recommends reaching for a brush or damp sponge when applying serum foundation. "A brush creates the most seamless, airbrushed finish while using less product, [while] a damp sponge gives you slightly more coverage," she explains. The most important step, however, is to work in thin layers to create coverage slowly and carefully. "Apply one light layer first, then add more only where you need it," says Zhang. "Use a small brush and a concealer with intense coverage to address any areas that you think still need it," she instructs. "I think of it like digital retouching!" she exclaims.
