The $40 Boots You'll Spot at Every Music Festival in 2018
You can blame it on Kate Moss. The image of the model at Glastonbury in 2005 wading through the mud is why Hunter rain boots have become quite synonymous with stylish “sloshing through the rain” gear. But if you thought the UK brand’s boots were already a spring staple before, let us introduce you to the $40 (and under) shoes that will probably sell out faster than you can say “chance of showers,” thanks to the latest Target designer collaboration.
Hunter and Target have teamed together for a massive collection that speaks directly to the heart of having fun, being outdoors, and not ruining your shoes in the process. The collection includes the brand’s iconic pieces, of course, with the tall Waterproof Rain Boots priced at $40 (the mainstay line sells them for around $150) and Waterproof Ankle Boots at $35. In addition, it has a womenswear lineup to complete your festival look—think adorable, lightweight raincoats alongside coordinating athleisure sets and playful rubberized accessories.
“There are so many different varied festivals,” Alasdhair Willis, Hunter’s creative director, told us when we got a first look at the collection IRL a few weeks ago. While Moss might have been an initial tie between the heritage brand and festivals, this new collection speaks more to the fashion and music fan of today. “The musical content of the festival can be pigeonholed, the type of fashion that was going to be seen there. That’s all changed now. The rulebook on the festival uniform has gone out the window. After 2005, with Kate’s festival uniform, every girl was wearing hot pants and Hunter boots with a little bit of boho. That’s gone now. There is no one single trend of festivals apart from Hunter boots.”
Mark our words: As the complete line (including menswear, kids, and tons of homeware, as well) officially drops today, we have a feeling it’ll sell as quickly as tickets to a Beyoncé-headlined festival. So peruse the lookbook ahead, and shop some of our favorite pieces accordingly.
