6 Celebrity Date-Night Outfits I'm Stealing for Fall
Major inspo incoming.
My husband and I plan a date night every other week, and we get dressed up and go out on the town. Whether we're headed to an invite-only party or a casual trip to the movie theater, I dress the part, using it as an excuse to put my best style foot forward. During spring and summer, my outfits usually consist of slip dresses, off-the-shoulder tops, and heeled sandals, but things get a bit trickier once the colder months roll around.
Cozy fashion often looks like fleece-lined pullovers, marshmallow puffers, and fuzzy booties, making it difficult to dress both warm and rendezvous ready. But Hollywood It girls—including Dakota Johnson, Selena Gomez, and Jenna Ortega—prove that it's possible, reaching for lace stockings, sheer tops, and leather trench coats over classic cold-weather staples.
The secret to a great fall outfit lies in the details. Opaque black stockings offer little visual interest, but merlot mesh hosiery delivers a romantic flair. A translucent top serves as a peekaboo moment versus a solid tee, and a sleek topcoat looks far more elegant than an insulated down jacket. Hollywood's A-listers are stepping out in some of the best cold-weather ensembles, and I'm taking notes. Keep reading to screenshot your favorite fall date-night outfits.
Stockings + Faux-Fur Coat + Heels
Johnson just gave me major outfit inspo, wearing a bold fur coat and sexy floral-embroidered stockings. The barely-there shorts give her legs for days, and her Valentino pumps add an extra boost of height. Wear a similar look to a trendy cocktail lounge or an edgy nightlife event.
Sheer Tee + Capris + Pumps
Gomez's monochromatic ensemble is both classy and sultry, leaning into the exposed-bra trend that's been spotted everywhere, from the runways to the streets. Her tailored capris add a flattering touch, and pointed-toe mesh heels elongate the legs.
Leather Trench Coat + Lace Cami + Jeans
Whether you're going on a museum tour or a Central Park stroll, Ortega's laid-back outfit fits the bill. Her silky lace camisole is romantic, and her jeans, cap, and loafers ground the look. But Ortega's leather trench coat is undoubtedly the star of the show, pulling each piece together.
Coordinating Lace Set + Slingbacks
Few things are as easy as a coordinating set. Follow Zoë Kravitz's lead by slipping on an open-front lace cardigan and a matching above-the-knee skirt. The duo is flirty and delicate, perfect for a candlelit dinner.
Graphic Tee + Striped Sweater + Denim
Not all dates have to be fancy, so steal Gigi Hadid's relaxed look for a trend-forward outfit complete with a baby tee and straight-leg denim. Tie a striped sweater around your shoulders for an elevated take, whether you're grabbing coffee or frozen yogurt.
Slinky Black Dress + Pointed-Toe Heels
If a night at the opera or a charity gala is on your calendar, then consider taking a few style notes from Emmy Rossum. Her glitzy black dress is the definition of glamorous, and her simple black clutch and pumps are timeless.
