This Bare-Leg Trend Is About to Go Viral and Is Already Hailey Bieber Approved
The moment Prada sent out oversize leather jackets paired with micro hemlines in eight of its 39 runway looks for the S/S 22 collection, I knew the combo was important. Already, we've seen the rise of miniskirts as one of the biggest trends this season. Leather jackets are seeing just as big of an uptick, especially upsized silhouettes in a variety of styles ranging from bikers to bombers—very similar to what was on the runway at Prada. Commit this to memory because the leather-jacket trend is only starting to take off.
We're also beginning to see the outfit pairing gain traction. This week, Hailey Bieber was spotted wearing a tiny skirt with a big leather jacket in a look that is nearly identical to one from the Prada runway. Dua Lipa and fashion insiders have also been testing out the outfit formula. Mark our words: Outfits comprised of micro minis and leather jackets will be huge in 2022.
On celebs:
Utilitarian leather jackets have been put on the back burner for the past several years, largely replaced by sleek leather blazers. There's no denying that leather bikers and bombers have returned, though. This time around, we're seeing looser proportions take over.
On Hailey Bieber: Balenciaga jacket and sunglasses; Edikted Dasha Micro Skirt ($34); Prada loafers and bag; Tiffany & Co. jewelry; Emi Jay Big Effing Clip ($34)
On Dua Lipa: Prada leather jacket, lace-up jacket, and gloves; Bottega Veneta Chelsea Boots ($1750); Gucci The Hacker Project Jackie 1961 Bag ($2690)
On Ella Balinska: Prada jacket, top, skirt, bag, and socks
On the runway:
Prada really made an impact with the leather-jacket-and-miniskirt looks in its S/S 22 collection, which is why we're already seeing the pieces take off. We predict the outfit formula itself is set to be highly influential in fashion this year.
On the fashion set:
Fashion insiders have already been spotted wearing the trend, leaning into everything from black and white looks to bold, colorful takes on the trend. As we head into fashion month, I predict we'll be seeing even more takes on the look on the street style scene.
An oversize bomber is such a great way to balance out the proportions of a miniskirt.
Just add a collared shirt and loafers.
