Forget East-West—This "Dated" Bag Shape Is Suddenly Every It Girl's Go-To For Summer
We may have reached peak East-West bag. That's not to say the silhouette isn't great. It is! It's far too roomy and easy to wear to go out of style.
But what made the bag special was its elongated shape, which gave it a really funky and fresh feel in the bag landscape. Now it's overwhelming popularity makes it feel a little less exciting. If you're looking for something a bit more inspiring, just look at what Chloë Sevigny has been tossing over her shoulder. The perennial cool girl has recently opted for Versace's Pivot Bucket Bag and has been seen wearing it more than once in the bright green shade.
Bucket bags haven't really been in the zeitgeist for some time now, despite them being a hallmark of 2010s style, which is quietly coming back into the mainstream. What made them so popular is how easy they were to toss over your shoulder and toss all of your belongings into them. Of course, that trait remains true—but Versace has given the silhouette a bit of a more Italian glam glow-up. The brand's take is just as practical but feels a bit more fabulous.
Sevigny isn't the only fan. Alex Consani and Olivia Dean have also been spotted wearing the same bag, which means it's only a matter of time before every 'It' girl is toting one around town.
And while we're not saying you need to put away your East-West bag, it might just be time to invest in a bucket bag, like the Pivot, to add something a bit different into the rotation. Clearly, it's what all the cool girls are doing.
