Turns Out These 10 Best-Selling Lipsticks Are Basically All the Same Colour
When it comes to beauty facts and figures, I'm a self-confessed geek. Give me an interesting statistic (a makeup sponge that has been sold over 50 million times or the best-selling highlighter in the whole of America, for example) and I'm all ears.
So when an email landed in my inbox last week promising to reveal the most popular beauty products on the internet right now, I couldn't have opened it any faster. Even better was the fact that it promised to reveal the 10 most popular lipsticks of the year so far—and I'm a sucker when it comes to a great lippie.
So imagine my surprise when a bit of digging revealed that the 10 most popular lipsticks right now are (at first glance, anyway) basically all the same shade. Be warned: If you're a red-lipstick lover like me, you might be in for a bit of a shock…
Yes, it's official: 2019 is the year of the nude lipstick. A report by Stylight recently revealed that most of the lipsticks that their 12 million monthly users have been searching for and shopping this year are firmly in the neutral end of the colour wheel. From a celebrity-favourite nude from Charlotte Tilbury to one of my ultimate everyday shades from Bobbi Brown, it's a comprehensive list of dusky pinks, muted berries and classic nudes. Although I'm delighted to say there was one red lipstick in the mix.
Keep scrolling to shop the 10 most popular lipsticks of 2019 so far.
#1: Bobbi Brown Luxe Matte Lip Colour in Boss Pink
The most popular lipstick of the year so far comes in the form of this dusty rose, matte colour. These formulas are so comfortable to wear, and I know that this shade is a hit for women doing their own wedding makeup.
#2: Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment in You're No Good
This poppy pink-toned red is the only bright to make its way into the top 10, landing in second position. Liquid lipsticks seem to have fallen out of favour in recent years, but I can confirm that these ones from Nars are the best if you hate how high-maintenance wearing a bright lip can be. You apply it once and it stays put all day.
#3: Yves Saint Laurent Tatouage Couture Liquid Lipstick in 25 Beige Secret
A classic nude shade but with a twist in formula. These luxe YSL liquid formulas glide onto lips to provide an intensely pigmented finish but dry down to a flattering stain.
#4: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Lipstick in 17 Nude Antonym
This plum-tinged nude would look beautiful on deeper skin tones. Described by YSL as a "leather matte finish," it imparts the most beautiful soft texture onto lips.
#5: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick 70 Le Nu
This sheeny nude lipstick gives me serious French-girl vibes. You can layer it up for a full-on nude lip look or wear it almost like a balmy tint.
#6: Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Desert Plum
This lipstick formula is as classic as they come—it's semi-matte, full-coverage and the lipstick that started it all for Bobbi Brown. No surprises then that this classic berry nude is one of the most popular lipsticks of the year so far.
#7: Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips 2 Lipstick in In Love With Olivia
Charlotte Tilbury's Hot Lips 2 collection was one of the most anticipated lipstick launches of the year so far. Not only does our editor in chief love this Olivia Palermo–inspired shade, but the rest of the public does too.
#8: Bobbi Brown Crushed Lipcolour in Grenadine
The look of a lipstick meets the feel of a balm with this Bobbi Brown formula. The deep pink hue is the perfect choice for girls who don't really do lipstick.
#9: Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk
Probably the most iconic nude lipstick of them all, Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk looks good on everyone and was the wedding lipstick of choice for both Amal Clooney and Poppy Delevingne.
#10: Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color in Babe
Not only is this the best-selling shade in Bobbi Brown's easy-to-wear Crushed Lip Colour collection, but I also wanted this deep nude to be my wedding day colour of choice. Unfortunately, at the time, it was sold out everywhere, but I still swear by it as one of my favourite nude lipstick shades for everyday wear.
Next up, this is the perfect nude lipstick according to Sienna Miller and our editors.
