If You're Not Yet Wearing This Canadian Label, You Will Be By Summer

Have you meet Beaufille? If you’re reading Who What Wear Australia, chances are you’re familiar, but not 100 percent up to speed. We’ve been enamoured with the Canadian label’s minimal-meets-off-beat aesthetic for the past few seasons, and off the back of a few major accolades over the last few years (from the likes of CFDA and Swarovski), we’re predicting the label is about to hit the mainstream.

The label just presented its Spring 2018 collection at New York Fashion Week, and if you haven’t already spotted this red dress all over your Instagram feed, have you even been on Instagram?

So what do you need to know about Beaufille? The label was launched in 2013 by sisters Chloé and Parris Gordon, and describes itself as the combination of masculine/feminine, hard vs. soft.

Chloe Hill of Cool Pretty Cool and our INF / Network is on the ground at New York Fashion Week and caught up with the sisters backstage for a quick Q&A.

Keep scrolling for a peek at what goes on backstage, and to find out more about the Spring 2018 collection.

Chloe Hill: What was the focus of the collection this season?

Chloé and Parris Gordon: The range is filled with contrasts, we worked on switching the way you typically work with fabrics. We used a lot of common fabrics like cotton shirting and we dressed them up, and put a lot of detail and work into them, and then some of the more expensive fabrics like satin and chiffon we left really clean and simple.

CH: Are there any pieces in the collection that you think would be great for the Australian summer?

CG and PG: I think the graphic stripe tops are really easy and fun, and obviously colour is great for any warm weather. Our idea is that our clothing can fit many body types and many different kinds of people. Aussies in general seem very effortless and easygoing so it just works well with the brand.

CH: I feel like Australian girls really resonate with the effortless feel of you brand, are you ever inspired by Australia?

CG and PG: Of course. I feel like the spirit in Australia is so free and relaxed, but there’s still a fast pace and a huge cultural side to it. It’s the perfect mix of the chill feel of Canada, the fast pace of New York, and then there’s the sun, too. So it’s a hybrid of so many great things.

CH: Lastly do you have any favourite It girls from Down Under?

CG and PG: We love Margaret Zhang!
