Historically, models are known to be tall. In some cases, very tall by most standards. For instance, Karlie Kloss and Elle Macpherson are famously in the 6-feet-and-over club. But what does it really take to make it as a model, at least as far as height goes? We took a closer look.
We surveyed the stature of 40 of the top models we talk about the most. That includes everyone from the Hadids to VS Angels to the icons referred to simply as Kate and Naomi—no last names needed here—in our quest to discover what the average height across the board. And in some good news for the (slightly) more petite women who aspire to model one day themselves, the median number is below 72 inches.
Forty photogenic, runway-walking, magazine-covering, selfie-taking style stars later, and the average model height, according to our calculations, is 5'9.5". Was this number close to your guess?
