Princess Diana Wore This Symbolic Trend 30 Years Before Pippa Middleton

Princess Diana's iconic style has definitely stood the test of time. The latest example that serves as proof? Her pretty gold signet ring, which she would wear on her left pinky finger. As The Telegraph reports, the jewelry trend is now as popular as ever—even Pippa Middleton has jumped on board, donning the classic ring on the very same finger on multiple occasions.

The newspaper explains that per Lyst, searches for signet rings have increased by 38% in the past year, and the founder of British brand Rebus also confirmed to The Telegraph that demand is up.

The newspaper went on to explain the symbolism behind the trend. "Signet rings can carry meaning, reminding the wearer of their family, or, in the case of a club or society crest, creating a sense of kinship and belonging, much like a club tie or a pin badge," Lucy Hume, co-author of Debrett's Guide to British Style, told The Telegraph. "They were used historically as a seal with a unique family crest to sign documents."

We've seen a lot of jewelry trends this summer, including gold hoop earrings and pendant necklaces, but signet rings may be the trend with the most history behind it. What's old is new again, right?
