I Wear the Shoe Trend Our Readers Unanimously Hate

Please meet the world’s most polarizing shoes: Balenciaga knife heels. They have become a bit of a cult item in the fashion world, and yet it turns out that our most vocal readers have nothing but shade for the super-pointy shoes. When we posted an image of them to Facebook, a frenzy of comments ensued. Amid the “WTH are these?” and “Good lord no!” sentiments, a chorus of concern emerged about elongating the foot.

As someone who has purchased and worn the knife shoes, I can attest that yes, they make your hooves look like small boats. I am fairly certain you could waterski in them… without the skis. I am a rather average shoe size of 7.5 and would say they add the appearance of at least two sizes to your foot. But here’s the thing: I love them. Do I want my feet to look enlarged? Not really. But I do appreciate a fashion risk, and the rich color and luxe satin were enough to win me over.

The dichotomy in opinion over the pointy shoes was amusing, but it also served as a good reminder. We don’t all have the same viewpoint on what is cool, flattering, or good fashion. Style is too personal and individual. You’ll never please everyone, so you may as well focus on what makes your own stylish heart sing. For me, that was my elongated clompers in a pair of curiously pointy shoes. Keep reading to see how I wore them, as well as a few other ladies who are team Big Foot.
