I Spent Over 10 Hours Shopping for Leather Trenches—These Are the Best Out There

It's true—over the last few weeks, perhaps even month, I've spent (at the very least) 10 hours shopping for the perfect leather trench both online, and, if you can believe it, in actual stores. I wanted something classic, on the longer side and not too oversized to suit my 5'2" frame (not an easy feat for this picky shopper, I must say). However, while after a rocky beginning the outcome was looking a little bleak, today I'm pleased to tell you that not only did I end up finding the perfect one for me, but I also came across plenty of other worthy contenders at all different price points along the way.

Curious to know which I landed on plus which others have my approval? To shop my finds and see some of the Instagram inspiration that got me wanting a leather trench so badly in the first place, just keep scrolling.

I tried this trench coat (which is also featured in a handful of the Instagrams in this story) and it was definitely a close contender that I would still recommend. I will advise, however, that it does run one to two sizes big—something to keep in mind if ordering!

A steal with one caveat: There is only a size large left. Who is the lucky shopper who gets to buy it? For other sizes, Bloomingdales is fully stocked at full price.

When I finally came across this Frame coat, I knew I had to invest in it. It just fit so perfectly and had a classic element to the cut that I really liked.

I've seen our Managing Editor Kristen Nichols (above) in this Nanushka trench, and it is dreamy in person. It's one of the brands with the best faux leather right now.

I tried this one on, too and loved it but unfortunately, it was too oversized for my petite frame. I would definitely recommend it to anyone a bit taller than myself or who is more partial to a very baggy look.

Everything Khaite makes is perfection, so it's no surprise that this coat is a 10/10.

If I was looking for a fall-ready option rather than something warmer (or if I still lived somewhere warm like L.A.), I would definitely opt for this affordable overshirt from Zara.

While I, personally, wanted something simpler, I really loved the layered look of this one and briefly considered changing course for it.

During my month-long search, I saw someone wearing this and had to ask her where it was from. Sadly, it wasn't available in my size at the time, but had it been, I definitely would have ordered it for myself. It has a vintage-looking quality that was really nice in person and was also just the right amount of oversized for me.

Our editor Anna LaPlaca owns a similar coat to this from Pixie Market and loves how it looks vintage and always earns her a lot of compliments.

I had to include this second (and newer) Nanushka style because I just love the natural element of the wooden buttons and the thin belt. It's currently on preorder at Moda Operandi but is listed as shipping within a month!

I trust Nordstrom reviews, so I believe that this patent leather style is as good as it's 4.5-star rating suggests.
