Every Cool Fashion Person I Know Is Wearing These 7 Winter Things

When looking at what the fashion set has been wearing as winter arrives, I've noticed there are some undeniable trends that are unfolding—whether I'm spotting them IRL on the streets of New York or on Instagram. There is certainly no denying that a new season is in our midst as more layering and holiday dressing start to take hold. Some of the most dominant trends are being carried over from earlier this year, though adopted for colder temperatures and taking on new shapes. Other trends, still, are just starting to take shape and take hold of fashion insider wardrobes.

From the directional way people are wearing knits and the outerwear pieces that are already huge to the specific colors and accessories that are suddenly everywhere, there are a handful of specific pieces and trends to know right now.

Ahead, take a closer look at the winter fashion trends we're predicting will be huge this season.

Thanks to brands including Phoebe Philo, The Row, and Saint Laurent, upsized leather jackets are making an impact on outerwear trends for winter. We're seeing everything from soft suede to lived-in leather versions take hold.

At this point there is simply no denying it, wearing your sweater as a scarf is simply the way to wear it this season. As we move towards winter, we're seeing this styling technique implemented over coats and outerwear.

Flat are going strong for winter. Much like earlier this year, the flat shoe trend is dominating and showing no signs of slowing down. The theme we're seeing take over now? Fancy styles finished with embellishments that feel primed for the holidays.

Leather pieces are getting the sleek, '90s-inspired treatment this winter in the form of ankle-grazing maxi skirts, trench coats, and strapless dresses. Depending on how they are styled, you can take them from soft to edgy.

Tennis Bracelets

While tennis bracelets are a trend reserved for the winter, they are hitting a new level of popularity that is arriving just in time for the holidays. We're especially seeing them paired with beautiful timepieces for a layered jewelry effect.

There has been a lot of talk about the black cherry trend that took over on the S/S 24 runways. While it is a trend we are predicting will be big next year, early adopters are already incorporating deep burgundy pieces into their winter wardrobes.

Sharply tailored coats are back and bigger than ever. Much like many of the trends we've seen in 2023 that are steeped in timeless designs, this piece marks a return to nondescript classics that you can wear for years and years to come.
