9 Color Trends We're About to See Everywhere This Fall

While we're just settling into summer right now, there’s no question we fashion folks are already looking ahead to some of the biggest trends set to dominate come September. Today we’re focusing on color trends (my personal favorite subject) and looking to the F/W 20 runways to determine which hues will reign supreme for the rest of the year.

"The color palette for fall/winter 2020 highlights our desire for versatile, timeless color—reflecting a less-is-more mindset,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, "colors whose timelessness and versatility convey a level of functionality and at the same time lend themselves to unique color statements that stand out.”

From rich and deep burgundy hues to asphalt gray and unexpected pops of orange, below we’re sharing the biggest color trends we’re about to see everywhere. Get ahead of the curve by shopping the hues right now.

Red, Red Wine

We're no strangers to seeing burgundy in fall, and this year, we saw the gamut of shades, from sultry, cherry reds to deep and dark wine hues. Robust reds were seen on head-to-toe looks in a plethora of textures and fabrics from leather capes to relaxed knits, adding a sophisticated touch to fall ensembles.

Feeling Blue

While practically every shade of blue had its moment on the fall runways (we particularly love refreshing powder blue and navy), it was the vibrant and bold strong blue hues that really caught our eye—most notably seen on a plethora of beautiful coats and dresses.

50 Shades of Gray

Gray is having a major moment for F/W 20. The neutral hue dominated the runways in head-to-toe looks. The shade came in various fabrics, lengths, and silhouettes, from suits to chunky knits and striking overcoats. The key to the tonal look is mixing various shades (and fabrics) within your ensemble, from darker ash tones to lighter heather shades.

Celery

The green-yellow shade was a fresh addition to the F/W runways, seen on tweed skirt suits, silk dresses, and knits. The color feels botanical and crisp and will unquestionably add an optimistic touch to your fall neutrals.

Almond Milk

Designers from Isabel Marant to Dior brought us dreamy (and creamy!) head-to-toe ensembles in warm off-white shades. Opt for ivory suiting or almond milk–hued knits for an elegant, modern, and luxurious look.

Fresh Orange

Time to enjoy some winter citrus! Radiant and lively orange hues were seen paired with everything from blue denim to brown leather, exuding a sense of confidence, creativity, and happiness.

Black Is the New Black

The F/W runways declared that black is anything but boring in 2020. The color was seen in all silhouettes and styles, from cutouts to fringe, puff sleeves to capes—breathing new life into the hue.

Time for Tan

Beige has unquestionably been the fashion world's favorite hue this past year, and the trend shows no signs of slowing down. Beige tones came in various shades on the runways, from pale-pink camel to warm and sandy tones, but we're really loving the deeper woodsy tan and toffee coloring seen on luxe fabrics such as leather.

Deep olive-green tones were seen on an array of fabrics from suede to silk, leather and quilted textures, adding a fearless touch to ensembles.
