7 Chic Jacket Trends That Are Dominating at M&S, Zara and Mango Right Now

Brittany Davy
The chillier weather over the past few days has got me so excited for autumn. The temperature is definitely dropping and the days becoming shorter. Luckily, this means we'll be needing our knitwear and a chic jacket. I can't explain why, but I just have this thing for jackets. I firmly believe they have the power to make any outfit look cooler—that, or they can totally let the side down if you don't have the right options at your disposal.
Right on cue, there are plenty of jackets to shop at the moment which, for layering obsessives like me, is such a treat. However, I'm aware that spending hours scrolling through every jacket section online isn't other people's idea of time well spent.
As such, I decided to put my shopping prowess to good use and bring you an edit of the very best high-street jackets. I trawled through the new-in sections of each and every high-street store to bring you the top three styles from each—all of which you'll find below. Common themes include leather bomber jackets and chic cropped woollen silhouettes. Throw in some quilted jacket and patchwork, and I guarantee you're sure to find a jacket to suit you, whatever your sartorial preferences.
Keep scrolling to see and shop the best high-street jackets currently on offer, neatly categorised by trend. I challenge you not to buy one (or three).
Jacket Trends That Are Dominating the High Street:
1. Textured Jackets
Style Notes: Add a chic touch to your autumn jacket collection with a textured iteration. There are loads of options all over the high street at the moment, but the M&S buckle coat is a fashion-person favourite every year.
Shop the Trend:
Layer up with a T-shirt now, or throw over a thicker jumper come winter.
2. Suede Jackets
Style Notes: With the coldest days not fully here yet, a suede jacket will see you through the transitional period. From relaxed bombers to structured blazers, there's a myriad of different styles over the high street right now.
Shop the Trend:
3. Quilted Jackets
Style Notes: The classic quilted jacket is back for another year. For autumn 2024, there are a number of different styles to shop, from more cropped iterations to longer lengths.
Shop the Trend:
Add an elevated feel to any look with this version.
4. Scarf Coat
Style Notes: I genuinely don't think there's anything that looks more elegant than a scarf jacket in autumn. This was previously a style that came with a much heftier price tag, but luckily for me, the high street has come out with much more affordable versions for 2024.
Shop the Trend:
5. Canvas Jackets
Style Notes: If you're looking for an easy throw-on style to wear throughout autumn and beyond, look no further than the canvas jacket. Relaxed enough to wear with jeans, but formal enough to throw over your dresses for the office, this verstaile styles can be found all over the high street this autumn.
Shop the Trend:
6. Leather
Style Notes: Leather is an autumn/winter staple, but for 2024, the high street is focusing on so many different styles that aren't just biker. Take a look at these sleek options.
Shop the Trend:
7. Trench Coats
Style Notes: Trenches are a style we see all year round, but for autumn, fashion people turn to darker shades like brown and black and thicker materials such as wool. The M&S checked wool trench is a particular standout on the high street at the moment.
Shop the Trend:
I have a feeling you'll be seeing checked styles everywhere.
