When you scroll through the feed of fashion director Tracey Lea Sayer, aka Trays Lounge, you can't help but feel a smile creep across your face. Personable, fashion-filled, and resolutely inclusive, Tracey is leading the way in a new guard of Instagrammers bringing personality and inside expertise to the platform. If you need proof, just check out her Insta captions…
With a wardrobe that orientates around a versatile edit of separates that feel both wearable and cool (and no, I'm not going to talk about "age-appropriateness"), Tracey's style skills are all about inventive layering and directional twists on classics. But out of her considerable clothing collection, there is one item that gets more airtime than all the others—and that is the boilersuit.
Fast becoming her signature look, a large proportion of Tracey's outfits are made up of utilitarian jumpsuits in every color and silhouette you could imagine (she even has an Instagram Story highlight dedicated to the trend). Needless to say, she has become an unending source of style inspiration for the team here are Who What Wear.
Because we thought it would be unfair of her to keep all of this excellent boilersuit knowledge to herself, we decided to put Tracey's obsession to the test and challenge her to wear a boilersuit a day for a week. Of course, she did not disappoint. From Marks & Spencer's sellout style to La Redoute's red showstopper, scroll down to see Tracey's boilersuit edit.
Style Notes: "This Marks & Spencer suit was a total sellout, and I know why. It gives great shape. It gave me a waist and a bum so at my age. #Winning!"
Style Notes: "When it comes to value for money, this Primark jumpsuit wins hands down. I love the color and the fabric is amazing! It also comes in denim if khaki isn't your color."
Style Notes: "Next always do a great boilersuit. I first saw this one on @wearsmymoney and immediately loved it. It has small pleats on the waist, which are really cool."
Style Notes: "This beauty was the voted the winner of my jumpsuit edit over on @Trayslounge, and I have to say, I'm a huge fan too. It has batwing sleeves and is such a great '80s shape."
Style Notes: "This black boilersuit is a bit dressier than I'd usually go for. I've realized I have started dressing like I did in the '80s and '90s more and more. I had a similar one way back then!"
Style Notes: "Zip-through boilersuits are the easiest to get in and out of. This is a hardworking one that I got from Gap a few years ago. It never lets me down. Shop a similar style below."
Style Notes: "Brown is massive in fashion land this season. Don't be scared. Try it. You might just like it."
Style Notes: "I don't normally go for cropped wide-leg trousers, so this is a bit out of my comfort zone. It's cute, though, and would look great on petite ladies."
Style Notes: "This bad boy is on my boilersuit wish list. It's just about to hit the stores, and it's so fab that I wanted to give you a sneak peek. Shop a similar style below."
Style Notes: "I have this boilersuit in two colorways. It's now on sale for only $60. The cut and quality are just brilliant."
Style Notes: "This Mango number is an old favorite of mine. I love wearing white now that my hair has gone gray, and teaming it with this denim vest made me feel very Isabel Marant—even if the denim vest is from New Look."
Style Notes: "Not for the faint-hearted! When you get to a certain age you start to feel a bit invisible. Two years ago, I decided to start enjoying clothes again that would get me noticed. Maybe my Instagram journey is a big fat midlife crisis, but at least it holds me accountable for how I look every day, and that can only be a good thing."
Style Notes: "This boilersuit is so soft and comfy, which is at the top of my wish list when I'm shopping for clothes. Gap is one of my favorite go-tos for anything khaki."
