We’ve always admired Margherita Missoni for her fearless Italian-girl style (if you’re not following her on Instagram at @mmmargherita, you’re missing out on some seriously fun outfit inspo). Bright colors, playful patterns, statement accessories? She’s game for all of it and clearly prefers dressing on the bolder side of the fashion spectrum.

When we heard she’d be teaming up with Splendid for another collab—this one dropping just in time for the holidays—we instantly began dreaming of festive apparel. What we got IRL? The perfect blend of the comfy, casual pieces we know and love from Splendid, plus Missoni’s unique color-infused flair. We should probably also mention that the collection is super affordable, starting at only $59. We were fortunate to chat with the designer herself about her inspiration for the line, as well as the one item she says is a must-have for the holidays.

Tell me about the decision to make more collections after the first one did so well. Who proposed the idea? How did it play out from there?

While we were working on the first collection, we kept thinking up pieces that felt so perfect for the Splendid x Margherita capsule, but they were a bit too wintery for the debut collection launch. [Then] the Splendid team just said “Let’s do it! Let’s continue working together and bring these designs to life for the holidays.”

Which style do you predict will sell out first?

The velour color-blocked dress. It’s effortless but quite striking.

You can definitely feel the ’70s inspiration. Who are some of your favorite style icons from that era?

Patty Pravo, Cher, David Bowie… They’re originals—complete icons in every sense of the word.

There are a lot of body-skimming knits in the collection. Any advice for the best undergarments for a seamless effect?

I almost exclusively wear underpants by a brand called Commando. They’re seamless and come in different colors and shapes. I recommend!

So many of the pieces feel festive without entering textbook holiday party wear territory. What inspired you to take a fresh approach to holiday dressing?

Comfort and practicality are two key elements that inform my style choices, especially during the holidays. I wanted to deliver a collection that simultaneously felt cozy and sparkly.

Which holiday dressing trends are timeless?

In my opinion, Lurex is, without a doubt, the ultimate timeless holiday trend. Lurex is my holiday dressing go-to; it’s eternally festive.

I want to dance all night long; pick the dress I should get from the collection…

The Lurex knit daisy-print Brillare romper.

Don't wait to shop the cozy holiday collection—we have a feeling it won't last long!
