Last night, Billboard presented its annual dinner and award gala, co-hosted by American Express. This was the first time the magazine held the event in Los Angeles, and it was a star-studded evening consisting of a red carpet; a cocktail reception; a seated dinner and awards presentation; as well as live performances by Camila Cabello, Kelly Clarkson, and more.
The annual event recognizes "some of the most talented, influential and successful female artists in the music industry, while also recognizing the most powerful female executives in the business," per the press release. And among those honored last night was Selena Gomez, who has been named Billboard's Woman of the Year.
Gomez thanked her BFF and kidney transplant donor, Francia Raisa, during her heartfelt acceptance speech. "I think Francia should be getting this award," the singer shared. "She saved my life. … I feel incredibly lucky." Prior to the ceremony, the two shared a sweet hug in front of the red carpet cameras.
Others honored at the annual event were Solange, who won the American Express Impact Award, Camila Cabello, who was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Mary J. Blige, who took home the Icon Award.
