The Best Fall 2019 Runway Moments From Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week is all about the drama. Between Gucci, Fendi, and Prada alone, this particular fashion week holds a lot of clout, arguably setting some of the biggest trends of the season time and time again. In Milan, we experience the most boundary-pushing runways in some of the most beautiful settings. 

To ensure you're kept up to speed on the latest F/W 19 runways, we're bringing you all of the must-know facts and looks that Milan has to offer. (Be on the lookout for our coverage of Paris up next.) Starting off with Karl Lagerfeld's last collection for Fendi after his passing, we're sure this Milan Fashion Week is going to be one for the books. 

Giorgio Armani 

Giorgio Armani's fall/winter collection, titled Rhapsody in Blue, was a whirlpool of dark and rich shades of blacks and blues. The womenswear shown was tailored and structured, yes, but not without a few playful elements thrown into the mix. We saw almost tie-dye-like suiting, exaggerated ruffle collars, and a few gowns that we are highly anticipating will have a red carpet moment in their near future. 

Max Mara

According to Max Mara, a monochromatic dressing is the way to tackle any situation that may come your way this fall. Whether it be head-to-toe animal print or a "stick of butter" situation, the theme of matching everything from your coat down to your shoes carried throughout the collection. In typical Max Mara fashion, we saw a slew of coats that we know will be seeing shortly on the backs of celebrities and politicians alike. 

Salvatore Ferragamo

We're seeing a theme here in Milan, and that theme is color. With the help of the newly appointed creative director, Paul Andrew, to the Ferragamo house, we saw a runway filled with everything from hot hues to luxe leathers to the timeless tailoring we all know to turn to Ferragamo for. 

Versace

An ode to the '90s, an ode to grunge, an ode to a new kind of Versace—this collection was one that stunned Milan Fashion Week attendees and took to social media like wildfire. Filled with an undoneness that somehow still screamed luxury, we saw innovative styling, saturated colors, and of course, and ending that made this collection feel so Versace with house staples such as harness dresses and gold chains galore. 

Fendi

This Fendi show was quite a special one as it was officially Karl Lagerfeld's last collection with the house before his passing just this week. The ambiance within the venue was a reverent one as guests gazed upon the "Love, KL" sign hanging above the runway and the little cards left on each seat inscribed with the date of his passing and his signature. The collection was filled with everything Karl did best throughout his 54 years at Fendi—pristine tailoring and fresh takes on the heritage of the brand. It's safe to say this is one Fendi collection that will be remembered forever. 

Prada

Romance—dark romance—was a consistent theme seen throughout this fall/winter collection. We saw off-the-shoulder dresses, lace overlays, and roses paired with heavy lug-sole combat boots and hairstyles that couldn't help remind you of Wednesday Adams from The Adams Family. All of this was simultaneously woven into military-inspired separates, making the softer pieces feel that much sweeter.
