It's arguably the most important question you could ever ask someone: Are you a Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, or Sophia? I've already waxed poetic about the style of TV icons like Hilary Banks and Rachel Green, but The Golden Girls more than deserve a callout as well. Played by Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty, the lovable roommates aren't only memorable because of their quick wit—their style was incredibly spot-on as well.

If you're an avid Who What Wear reader, you know that we've mentioned the resurgence of "grandma" trends quite a bit. We're talking structured handbags, pearl jewelry, and faux-fur coats. Given the trend's popularity, why not take inspiration from the funniest, chicest, and most charming grandmas in TV history? Scroll down to shop four trends inspired by The Golden Girls that will be right at home in 2020.

Cardigans With Collared Dresses

The cult show is a treasure trove of styling ideas. One of my favorites: wearing cardigans with the collar of your dress peeking out.

Chunky Gold Earrings

The Golden Girls loved their jewelry—preferably in gold, and the chunkier the better. Blanche and Dorothy's earrings below are so on-trend right now.

Long Nightgowns and Robes

'Tis the season to say inside and keep cozy, and there's nothing comfier than a long nightgown and robe. The girls were big fans of the sleepwear staples and they looked mighty chic in their pastel colors.

Peter Pan Collars

Sophia, in particular, was a major fan of the Peter Pan collar. Don't worry about the trend looking too prissy—it's cooler than ever right now.

Erin Fitzpatrick
Senior News Editor

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 12 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of senior news editor (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
