When you spend as much time scrolling through IG as I do (come on now—most of the time it’s for work!), it’s basically impossible not to get inspired on the style front. While I have a plethora of outfit ideas saved from my fellow fashion boys, I save just as many ’grams from their female counterparts for inspiration. After recently going through my saved tab, I noticed that my standouts all seem to share one common thread. The majority feature the very-right-now plaid trend.

While the checkered pattern is certainly not new, it’s been reinvented in a very Cher Horowitz–inspired way to feel fresh this season. It’s to the point where you can’t seem to head to any e-shop’s new arrivals section without spotting a healthy assortment of plaid items—thus the reason for the slew of checkered outfits on my feed. The beauty of some statement plaid pants is they essentially just do the work for you. You don’t necessarily need to do a ton of extra styling and can stick to basic essentials (like a white tee and booties) and still have an incredibly forward look.

You can’t go wrong with a checkered suit. The beauty is you can mix and match the jacket and skirt with other pieces in your wardrobe.

I saw these stylish pants all over the fashion week streets—and for good reason. They’re eye-catching, unique with the double patterns, and, like the first outfit featured here, just work.

I like to call this the “one and done” dress. The style is statement-making enough on its own with the colorful checkered print, so you can simply throw it on and be ready to go. To take it one step further, add a chain belt for something less expected.

Like this ensemble showcases, checkered print on print can totally work if the two patterns are generally monochrome. Add a pop of color and coordinating accessories, and you’re good to go.
