14 Fall Trends All the Cool Fashion Girls Are Buying RN
The biggest fall trends have been written up and reported on to death ever since they hit the runways six months ago. But which ones are the fashion set actually wearing now? I posed the question to four incredibly stylish women and was intrigued to see the top trends hitting their closets this season. MyTheresa’s fashion buying director, Tiffany Hsu, is leaning hard into bold pieces like exaggerated shoulders and neon, which doesn’t surprise me—her envelope-pushing looks are always being snapped on the street style scene. Bergdorf Goodman social media editor Taylor Hicks is taking a classic approach with nods to the ’80s by wearing structured blazers and minidresses inspired by the decade. As for the rest? Scroll on to see and shop all of their picks for 14 of the most wearable trends to order for the fall season ahead.
STATEMENT SHOES
“I’m a total shoe girl. Every time I think I should buy a bag, I always end up with another pair of shoes. I’m obsessed with Ada Kokosar Midnight 00 and the shoes she’s designed. They’re cool, feminine and modern all at the same time. I’m a total fan!"
SNAKESKIN
“Snakeskin or just various types of animal print is one of my favorites this season. It’s sexy and powerful, and I love the fact that you can dress it up with fancy accessories or mix with flats for a more casual look. I love The Attico girls; they’re so amazing, and their collections are out of this world.”
CHECKS
“I love checks especially the original Burberry checks. I wore the blazer with the matching bumbag, and it’s just really still one of my favorite looks. It’s modern, powerful, and still sophisticated.”
PRETTY DRESSES
Rotate Black Bead Dress (price upon request)
“Dresses—or should I maybe say classically feminine outfits in general—are a big thing these days. Let’s embrace or bodies and our femininity by showing off our curves and legs. I love this dress because it’s short yet lose around the stomach area and it covers the arms. It’s so flattering and perfect for a night out.”
LEATHER-ON-LEATHER
“Leather on leather is such a trend this winter, and this Nanushka number is the perfect hassle-free statement piece. I love it with a pair of bare sandals from The Row, or worn with a pair of ankle boots and layered under a robe coat when it’s a little cooler during the fall months.”
BARE SANDALS
“The red and navy pairs are the perfect strappy sandals. They’re super flattering, giving you height but also making any outfit feel chic and understated.”
EXAGGERATED SHOULDERS
“I loved Miu Miu’s patent leather oversize ’80s-style jacket, with exaggerated shoulders and a matching belt. It taps into the all-leather trend and looks great with tiny black sunglasses.”
NEON
“For shoes, I would have to say the Prada flame heels in a bright neon shade.”
SUITING
“Working in an office environment, I was excited to see more suiting options spring up this season. I love feeling like corporate Barbie whenever I slip into a suit, and this set from Petite Studio is no exception.”
ANIMALS PRINTS
“Leopard-print pants are going to be a staple for me this fall since they can serve as a fun replacement for jeans. I love the flare cut and soft feel of this velvet Callipygian pair.”
BRIGHT TIGHTS
“Bright tights can be an easy way to add a pop of color under skirts and dresses to keep outfits from feeling boring with all of fall’s neutral colors.”
'80S REDUX
“I’ve been patiently waiting for this decade’s style revival for as long as I can remember, and the fall 2018 season proved to be its welcome back party. From Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs to Saint Laurent and Alexandre Vauthier, designers interpreted the trend in such different ways but all with common denominators: bold shoulders, short hemlines, saturated hues, and serious attitude.”
POWER SUITING
“Anyone who knows me knows that I live and die for a power suit. Structured, well-tailored blazers have become a wardrobe staple for me in that they pair perfectly with almost everything I own. On a deeper level, this trend also represents empowerment, confidence, and determination for me and I’m sure many other working women.”
THE MID-CALF BOOT
“The fall 2018 season embraced boots more than ever before with hundreds of different variations. My personal favorite take has been the mid-calf boot that Attico’s Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio have nailed. The height works extremely well with mini skirts and midi dresses, but a unique styling trick I can’t wait to try is tucking straight-leg trousers and denim into them.”
